I want to run a file server for my family and buddies at home. I have pretty decent upload...65megabit. And would like to get software that will saturate it outgoing. What are my options? I've tried running filezilla server but it doesn't seem to use more than 1 megabit upload.

What do you guys think?
 
That's a good Windows Home Server deal.. FreeNAS may be hard depending on your experience. If you want free just install Ubuntu and Google for a guide. Are they going to be accessing your server over the Internet or from within your network at home? If they are going to be remote you'll need to change settings on your router to make the server publicly accessible through NATing.

You should also look into a dynamic DNS service like http://www.no-ip.com/ where you can give them a domain address instead of your IP.

I use CIFS over PPTP VPN for accessing files on my server remotely. Seems to be the most slick way and maxes out my upstream no problem.

I have also had good results with the WebDAV protocol as well if you don't want to use a VPN.

Are you sure 65Mbps is your upload and not your down. If filezilla is limiting you to 1Mbps your upload is properly on the smaller end and the 65Mbps is your download.

As for the easiest solution, it is hard to beat Windows Home Server. If base file sharing doesn't work there are plenty of applications to help your share out the data as well that work well under windows.
 
If he has FiOS, it's completely possible he has 65mbit upload.

...actually it's 65mbit upload advertisted exactly on 2 of the FiOS tiers.
