I'm looking for a real good pair of headsets. Priced no higher that $150. No surround sound, no usb only, no ear buds, no behind the ear wrap. Open or closed doesn't matter. Looking for good overall sound quality and comfort.Portability doesn't matter either. Though I'd prefer not to carry around an amp. I'll be using them mostly for helpdesk work as a softphone for long periods and for CS when I'm done with work. Any recommendations?

Do you want open or closed headphones? supra-aural or circum-aural? buds? in-ear? behind-the-head band?
What's important to you? Accuracy? Bass? Comfort? Portability?

Give us some more details. What are you going to be using them for?

Sennheiser PC-150's are popular with CS players. They're not exactly high-end but CS players have a tendency to break their stuff, in fact I recently broke my 150s :(

Plantronics DSP-500's are popular too but they're USB and you don't want that for whatever reason.

For higher quality than those, most people opt for a nice set of Sennheiser headphones and a seperate mic. If you're into modding I see no reason why you can't buy some Sennheisers and a nice mic and combine them :)

AHHH THANKS! I know a lot about Sennheiser's headphones, since I own a set of the 580s, and have read a lot about their "gameing" headsets 135, 150, 155, 160, etc... but for the price they looked like a terrible bargin for what you get. I had no idea the HMD280's exsisted. Thanks, this is exactly what I was looking for.

Just a heads up to demografik. USB headsets have a tendency to be very "weak" since usb ports don't provide that much juice. Also they have been known to have noice over the lines with other usb devices attached; mice, hds, etc... This can be improved with a high quality powered usb hub but many times this does not fully alleviate these problems. Just an FYI for your next headset since you seem to break yours quite often. :D
