I'm looking for a new pair of headphones/headset. What I'm looking for is the ABSOLUTE BEST for gaming. I don't listen to mp3's or watch movies on my comp. Something with great bass but yet still maintains highs. Not concerned if 5.1 or not.

Your input is appreciated =]

The best headphones are the Sennheiser Orpheus . For under $150 I would recommend the Sennheiser HD580 (add an amp later) or the Audio Technica A900 (amp later too).
 
I would suggest you check out the 80 ohm version of the Beyer DT770s.
The excessive bass makes then great gaming cans
The downside is the are closed cans with velour ear pads and as such they don't breathe very well so your ears tend to heat up. They are also not the best cans for music but some people may enjoy them for that role.

For open cans check out the Sennheiser HD580s.
Nice balance and excellent imaging makes them good for games and music.
The problem with these is they need an amp to make them live up to their full potential.
Even without an amp they are pretty sweet cans for gaming.

By that same token the Grado SR80s are not to bad for gaming but their upfront presentation makes them better suited for music then games.

Agreed. Thats why I got some HD497s for gaming. My HD580s were like earmuffs during the hot summer. I dont care if the 497s get wet with sweat ;)
 
I would suggest AKG K240 Studio's... you can usually find them used for $80 or new for <$100 and they sound great when driven out of a soundcard. Better with an amp, but thats pretty much always true.
 
Check out the Bose Triport's. I cant express how comfortable these are and how amazingly good the sound quality is.

Overpriced and sound terrible IMO. ;) You can get a pair of Sennheiser HD580s for the same price that sound immensely better. The Triports are comfy though.
 
For a great pair of Closed headphones, you owe it to yourself to check out the Sony MDR-V6's. They go for about $60 and totally smash everything else in that price range. They also happen to be just about the most popular headphones in use in recording studios today. their only drawback is that their highs are a little harsh, but it really depends on the recording.

For headphones, they have incredible bass response. I compared them to my brothers Sennheiser HD280's, and while his sounded good, it would be like the difference of a home theater with or without a subwoofer.
