I've googled a bit, and it looks to me like the best is the peltier version of the Swiftech MCW50, with the peltier version of the DD Maze4 in close second. But I think peltier cooling is a little too risky for me, so what's the best non-pelt block out there? Right now I'm between the two I mentioned before, only without the pelt, but I'm open to anything you guys put out there.

Depends on what card you wish to cool, and what pump you are using. What size tubing will you run? I will say you won't be disappointed with either you listed, but if you plan on an x2 card, it will require a custom full-cover block as the sockets are different :( (<---has 2 unused Swiftech MCW 55's).
 
Holy thread resurrection batman! What is your current WC setup and what do you plan to cool?
 
I don't have any of them yet. Let's say 2 4870X2 and 3 GTX280. I mentioned the gtx since it does not limit the size of the block.
 
other things to consider, what else is in your loop? I'm happy with my maze5, its free flowing so it allows that extra pressure for my fuzion v2. The more eat I pull from the GPU the more heat I will have going to the CPU as well.

according to extreme fourms, the gfx2 is the best, achieving around 1C better than mcw60. Forgot the link though!

I don't think the GFX2 will work on the 4870x2, its going to require a dedicated dual GPU block, but a GTX280 it should not be a problem. The D-Tek works great on my 4870 (35c idle, 39c load). Really nice block.
 
Swiftech released some hardware to allow 2 MCW60's to mount on the X2 cards. I think they're doing a RAM plate, also. There is a large thread showing them at XS.

With the additional RAM and the PWM, I'd shy away from single blocks and go with a dedicated block that cools all areas of the card. Something like this.
 
Thanks for the infor! Could someone illustrate why 2 GFX2 won't fit on a 4870X2?

Also, what HS should I use for the RAM/MOFSET? Should I use the black RAM sink which comes with the card or those small hs from swiftech? From what I've heard, those parts run HOT. I don't wish to end up with a fried card. This is also very important since I will be doing volt mods. Kindly advice me!
 
I have the Dtek GFX2 blocks on my 4850's and they work killer. Never top 37c on either core.
 
Problem I ran into with running the DTek block is that the VRM's get screaming hot on the HD4870 to which you really need good airflow over the video card(s). My idle and load temps are great for the GPU, but the regulators are hitting close to 100c! I'm scrapping the D-Tek in favor of a FC block since it covers not only the GPU but the regulators. Only thing that a FC block sucks at is that they tend to be more restrictive than a stand alone GPU block.

I wouldn't do anything but a FC block for a 4870 and 4870X2 as they need it.

Koolance would be my choice at that point.

Problem is, the VRUs don't get the benefit of direct air unless you leave the stock plastic shroud on so the air is more contained.

Rick, I would have gone Koolance for the FC block, but they were OOS at both places that carry them. If I'm not happy with the EK thats on its way, I can always pick up the Koolance later. Yea, bad habit of buying multiple blocks. ;)

I ordered the koolance FC directly from koolance.com too and it shipped same day, yesterday. Maybe they are hoarding them? Yeah frozencpu listed it but no stock.

Where do they ship from? I just got my 4870X2 and it is time for a FC block.

maybe too late

but gfx maybe will be better, but on mcw60 you will be have better flow ;)

also MCW60 and apogee GT/GTX dont have the same base (mcw60 has little less pin and these pin are bigger than in apogee gt/gtx)
so I bought apogee GT and I will make special mounting for gpu, this block should be rocks :D
