I am looking for the absolute best gaming mouse, preferable wired. I am thinking about the Razor Lachesis. I already own the Logitech mx518 and I do not like it. I donot like the sensitivity button located where it is accidentally switched, plus it reverts to low everytime you restart the computer.

I am also looking for a great gaming keyboard, but I must have a small footprint, I donot like the wasd arrow key things that make the keyboard freakin huge.

Any input appreciated. Thanks!

I have the mx518 and its pretty sweet. Razer has so many damn mouses I cant tell the differences or which one to get. WTF?!?

Maybe try reading the descriptions on them?
I have a MX, but only for work, and for gaming I use a Razer Diamondback and love it. I am tempted to move up their line to something "newer," but why change when nothing is broken right? Also, make sure you will enjoy laser over optical; I enjoy my optical for gaming but never could get use to a laser mouse. If you can go to a store and hold a few razer mice I would suggest that, but if not then where you buy online make sure they have a good exchange or return policy if you are dissatisfied.
 
I use a Razer Copperhead. Takes a little getting used, but once you do, it's awesome.

I upgraded from cheapo optical, and the 2000dpi was instantly noticeable - it's much much more responsive. On-the-go sensitivity adjustment is also a plus. And it matches the rest of my parts with the black+blue LED theme.
 
I'm loving my new G9, The new design is actually more comfortable, and I have big hands. They put the forward/back button back, and you can even change the color of the lights, down to hues.

The two grip styles is also a plus.
 
I have the G5 now. Its got weights to add to make it either heavy or light. (kinda pointless to me, but hey, some people like it.) I had the Mx518 and loved it, just couldnt seem to get it to work with Vista gaming. The G5 is alot like the 518 but does not have a "internet forward button" just the back button for the thumb. That kinda sucks. The G5 also has on the fly sensitivity changing. Its Wired and laser and has a tilt 3rd button/wheel. Ive never liked the feel of the Razer Mice
 
mx518, its got better materials that feel better than the g series mice, also they just upgraded it so that it now has 1800dpi, it is the perfect mouse (although i would love to see an mx518 special edition with the g5 feet and the 1800dpi engine and everything else the same.)
 
I like the MX Revolution while gaming so long as you keep the transceiver close to the mouse. Otherwise there can be a small lag when it 'wakes up' as it drops transmit power after periods of inactivity to conserve battery life and I can't find any way to avoid this.
 
I went from a Logitech G5 to a Razer DeathAdder and I must say it was worth every penny. It just felt smoother, more comfortable was the biggest thing for me, as well as having two buttons on the mouse sealed the deal. Plus, it looks sexy as hell :D
 
I just got a MX518. I hate it and it's going back... Guess i have big hands or something, but it does not support my ring finger like my crappy ms intellimouse explorer does.

didn't think it would bother me, but it's driving me insane when i go to the right and my fingers bump. i even tried it before i got it, but isn't the same as having it on my desk and using it all day.

There is no way around it, not that I know of anyhow.

I don't really game a lot, but I do like my Revolution... really comfortable mouse, in my opinion...
 
I have and love my logitech G7. Best mouse I have ever used and believe me I have used tons of different mice.

Yes it is wireless, no it does not lag at all, yes I have had many wireless mice that lag and do infact know what it feels like and I hate it when mice lag!

The swaping of batteries is awesome as well. The batteries last a good long day of all day use or up to a week or so of light use. and when you do have to change them you just quickly hotswap one out and pop the other in. I can switch batteries in just a few seconds without barely looking. I can even doing it during a game without issue.

The G7 just is perfect IMO. I like it much better than the newer Revolution mice as well.


My second choice is an old optical MS intellimouse. Super light weight, no stupid extras, and one of the lightest to use scroll wheels ever. It was my main gaming mouse for many years and I still own with it :cool: They dont sell it anymore though, they do have one like it:

This thread is kind of pointless as the "best mouse" varies from person to person. You don't like the MX518, while a lot of other people think its the greatest thing since sliced bread. There are a lot of pro gamers that still use old revisions of the intellimouse. There's really no way to know what the best mouse is for you without firsthand experience.
 
another vote of confidence for the logitech g7. the only real complaint i have against this bugger is that in an intense gaming session the batteries last only 4 hours. For normal day to day browsing about 8-10 hours.

Yup, but luckily the hotswap feature works very well with the batteries and they charge very quickly!

But if you dont like the MX518 design you probably wont like the G7 or G5.

Those tests are about as useful as an infected scrotum.

The quality of a mouse is an almost purely subjective affair.

you really should check out the razer deathadder. i'm pretty sure it uses the intellimouse body. i thought the MX518 was uncomfortable too and i found the deathadder to fit my hand perfectly. try to find one at a local store and see if it feels comfortable to you.

I will own you with my old classic microsoft optical wheel mouse with its single non-stated DPI, standard scroll wheel, and 2 buttons (right and left click)!

Mechanical is one thing, personal feel and preference is another. With mice personal feel and preference is king. I could own just as much on Half Life 2:DM and BF2 with my old mouse as I can with my true gaming mouse :cool:
 
Best advice I can bring:

Go to the stores who sell mice and have demos on display and see how they fit. Its not ideal, but at least you can start narrowing them down at that point.

Next, compare specs and see what one fits features you'd like. Wireless? Optical? Laser? extra buttons? Gaming profiles? Get the idea?

Then hunt around or the best prices. Even check out the reviews on consumer websites.

Also, look at what style you use to hold your mouse while you game. The size and layout of the mouse should depend on this as well. Believe it or not, the Razer Diamondback and Razer DeathAdder are made for 2 different mouse holding styles.
 
DeathAdderjust picked it up. I have owned the G5,G7, M518, Razer CopperHead and the Diamond Back. I LOVE the feel of the deathadder.
 
The Razor Lachesis has some bad reviews because of its hand held comfort. For this reason, I will be going with the Razor Deathadder. For a keyboard, I chose the Razer Lycosa because it is high end yet simple.

Of course all of this is heavy in the oppinion game, and I am someone who likes simply yet highly functional hardware. My biggest complain with the mx518 is that I don't like using Logitech's drivers because I cannot find a comfortable sensitivity setting. Windows built in sensitivity just feels better to me. Also he on the fly sensitivity buttons are way to easily to accidentally hit, that button should be on the button of the mouse.

My 2 cents. Oh and I have owned an mx1000 wireless mouse and loved it as well, but it is a bit to bulky to be a professional gamer.
 
MX518 here.

I also overclock my USB port to 500hz from the default 125hz.

Unfortunately my new Gigabyte DS3L will only go to 500hz whereas my old Asus P5LD2-VM would do 1000hz no problems.

It does make a difference. Calculating it out, 125hz is a 8 millisecond delay in sampling rate, 500hz is a 2 millsecond delay, 1000hz is a 1 millsecond delay.

By overclocking the USB from default 125hz to 500hz, you effectively chop 6 milliseconds of delay off your mouse input. Which is noticable enough, just remember to change your hardware and ingame mouse settings accordingly.

Most PS/2 users can chop 5 milliseconds off their mouse (default 100hz "overclockable" to 200hz) by simply going into control panel and changing the input sampling rate checkbox there.

Modfied MX518 lightened with extra teflon feet on the bottom of it on a ICEMAT II Black mouse pad. Also you gotta have the fan for the mouse to keep your hand dry at all times...

In COD4 I have crouch set to mouse button above scroll wheel, prone set to button below scroll wheel, gernade set to mouse forward button, ALT to run and shift to knife.
 
I have an mx518, a G5, and a G7. I've had the mx518 the longest. I think I enjoyed the G5 the most. However, it went out on me (kept turning itself off WHILE I was using it...after having it about 6 months). Been using G7 ever since (for the last several months) and I like it alot. It's heavier than my G5 since I take all the weights out of the G5...but enh..I'm used to it now I think...
 
Deathadder is infinitely better than the 518 IMO, not that the 518 is a bad mouse, but the Deathadder is just smoother, both physically (comfort) and tracking wise.

Looks a hell of a lot better too. And I love how it "breathes" with the blue light slowly fading in and out. :p
 
I'm going to pick up a MX518 because the MX Revolution pisses me off when I have to turn around fast . It has a real noticeable lag and I usually get my head blown off by the time I turn around in TF2 . Hopefully the MX518 is a good mouse. For 40$ I don't think I should complain .
 
got a free razer habu from the last lanfest, and after my g5 died recently (wierd scroll wheel glitch), i opened it up and gotta say i love it! software sucks a big one but all the buttons work out of the box fine.

Although feel is everything, and i used to just use my mx1000 and still rock the house, despite it being bulky
 
Razer Copperhead FTW!!!

I tried the Lachesis, but didn't like the shape and feel of it.

But for me, I've tried G5, Razer DeathAdder and Diamondback and I hated them all, they get dirty so quick, tough to clean, and the Razers had a squicking wheel which was annoying. I'm going to order an Intellimouse 3.0 in a few days and it looks way better than both the G5 and the DeathAdder, I know I liked the regular explorer.

my local Wal-Mart has the Intellimouse 3.0 for $29.99 so I think I may try one of those myself. ;)

I think the "best" mouse is probably the g9, but that's very subjective. I really like the weight/grip system. I think gamers are always looking for that little bit extra and being able to change the grip is always nice.

I would go "rent" a few from BB and see what you like. That will be your best bet.

Are you fine with the shape etc? I find it to be one of the best. If so snag a 510 and don't install the Logitech trash er I mean software ;) You don't need it.

If you just don't like the shape/design of the 510/518 well then you are broken, not the mouse! :p
 
Got the Deathadder at BB for 40 bux. Not gonna pay more than that for a mouse but that seemed fair.

Been a great mouse, really comfortable.
