Best fan position for top mount AIO radiator?

For an AIO mounted on the inside top of a case for exhaust, does it make much difference in cooling performance whether the fans are attached to the bottom of the radiator pushing air up through the radiator, or attached on top of the radiator pulling air out?

push it

In my experience, AIO radiators are dense enough, that the cooling performance difference between push and pull, is quite small. And for some fans which have relatively better "pull" performance, the difference is pretty tough to notice.

However, fans are usually louder, when their back is right up against something. The best thing to do for pull, is to use a 5mm gasket/shroud/duct, sealing the connection between the RAD and the fan. This will eliminate the extra noise, and also maintain performance.
And actually, doing the same thing for push, will also help with noise.

Keep in mind it is easier to clean the radiator if the fans are on top in pull because in push the dust gets sandwiched 🥪 in between the fan and the rad.
That being said I always run push pull. No matter what I make it fit lol.
Push is more effective. Pull needs to work a bit harder to move the air through.
If the fans have a good seal on the rad the difference should be minimal.
Go for push pull if you can. 😃

Thanks all.

yeah, I heard it is easier to clean (and keep clean) with a pull configuration, but wasn't sure about the performance.

Thanks. Which fans are better for pull?

In the description it will say "static pressure" or for radiators as opposed to "air flow" fans. When shopping get radiator optimized fans.

Ok, thanks, right. I thought you meant that certain brand models of static pressure fans were better for pull. But you just meant static pressure fans in general.

Push the air through the rad. Pull would require higher fan speed to get similar performance that creates noise imo.

I have never seen cobwebs like that in a computer that has fans that do something.

My Metro Datavac would like a word with you.

The literal only thing you could maybe change is putting the top fan from the front of the case under the gpu.

Otherwise, idk, stop sitting in a garage. Or go get a furnace filter and make some covers.

Reminds me of a quote from Inner Space when Martin Short gets to Tuck's apartment... Tuck says "Yeah, aint it great, I call it user friendly!" ... legit true.
