Socket 939, A, and 478... I'm currently upgrading pc's a little and want to know the Best Heatsinks/fans for those 3 Sockets...

the A, and 478 can be decent, as long as the 939 is GREAT!!! As its my gaming machine. The other 2 are back up machines or machines that run stuff that I'd rather not put on my Gaming machine :D

Owell, all help is welcome :)

Fans are not at all chipset-specific.

Fan selection criteria are:
- Case-specific (120mm, 92mm or 80mm case openings).
- Cooler-specific (80, 92 or 120mm cooler design).
- Flow-rate.
- Operating noise (RPM vibration, bearing noise, air turbulence).

Decide what match of criteria you want and make a selection.

Hope this helps!

was interesting in which heatsinks are concidered to be the best for those sockets...

Top coolers out there right now would be the Thermaltake Big Typhoon, Scythe Ninja (needs a fan or two of course), and the Tuniq Tower. If you don't already have a fan or hole right over your processor and you're not interested in any modding, I would suggest the Ninja or Tuniq as the BT is so massive, it can be starved for air. Recently I've been running some tests; with about 1" of clearance from the side, there was a 4-5*C difference between a completely solid side and having a 120mm hole right over the CPU; there was a further 4-5*C difference when I threw a 120mm fan on the fan hole.

I'm sorry, but the tuniq is bigger and more bulky than the BT . I've seen reports of people not being able to fit it in a normal sized case. The BT sits high off the CPU, but in actual reality in handling it, it isn't really that heavy as far as heatsinks go. My old zalman 7000-cu is abit heavier. The BT is mostly aluminum and is quite light considering its size. I can't speak for the ninja, but the BT is a nice choice, especially since it does so well with a low RPM fan making it almost non-existant as far as noise is concerned.

However, yes, you could have a clearance problem with the bt, but then again, I guess it just depends It doesn't move a whole lot of air to begin with. I am not really having this problem.
