Best fan configuration (pull/pull, pull/push, push/push/) for a amp's box????

Hi,

I need some help here, I'm building a box for my car's amp to prevent it to get damage by things in the trunk and also to save some space. The amp is air cooled, so I need to make the box well ventilated.

The fans will be on each side of the box to make some kind of a cooling tunnel, though about putting 3 120mm per sides. But now I'm wondering what would work best a pull/push, pull/pull or a push/push setup. Or even if i should only use fans on one side and keep the other side just open...

So what's your opinion? I'm building it today so i'd like to get a quick feedback!
Thanks!

What clocks you running on that thing?

j/k - Maybe you should post on diyaudio.com or audio asylum or somewhere where there is a larger base of experts in that area.

Thanks for the proposition, but I want your opinion, because I doubt those guys have has much experience has you in cooling.

I've built my comp with your suggestion for cooling/case and i've never had a quiet computer like that and it's really cool also.

So in a computer when you have an element blocking the air flow like a vertical heatsink, what is the best setup?

Thanks

Well, if you really want *my* opinion, push/pull as a concept overall works best. The main difference between most PC cases vs. your amp box is probably going to be the tower design for pcs vs a horizontal (desktop case-like) layout, I presume, for your amp.

I would start with a couple of fans in each side leading to a "straight through" airflow design. If your amp has heatsink fins, I would place it so that the grooves in the fins are in the same orientation as the airflow as opposed to be orthagonal to the airflow. Having a fan at the top may or may not be useful - I would probably start without them, do some measurements and then try again with a top fan and measure again.

I'm wondering what would work best a pull/push, pull/pull or a push/push setup.

Push/Pull and Pull/Push are the same thing, the air just flows in the opposite direction through the box.

Pull/Pull and Push/Push configurations will not move any air at all.

If you're talking about whether to mount the fans inside or outside the box, it makes no difference.

Perhaps you're confused about orientation because of the discussions about fans and watercooling radiators...that's a completely different situation and has nothing to do with what you propose.

The "Best" scenario would be to also have a fan inside the box actually blowing some of the cool air flowing through the bix onto the heatsinK(s) on the amps.

Overall, a single 120mm fan moving 50-60CFMs, with an open hole on the other side of the box, and a fan blowing on the heatsink(s) (20CFM or so) would be more than adequate.

For Bling...plexiglass boxes and lighted fans. And remove the bulb from the trunk light too.

Not really confusing when you think about it for a while.
