My dad's laptop is getting a bit long in the tooth and so he is looking for a reliable, simple to use external backup hard drive. He does have Firewire 400 on his Dell PIII, but as he doesn't do much large file work, mostly Office, capacity and transfere speed aren't top priorities.
So many drives out there, which are best in your experiances and opinions?

If his files are not that big, he could use an external dvd burner. Most are usb2, so I'm assuming he has that. It would give him 4.7 gb of backup that is easy to carry.
