There are so many coolers, I really need some help picking out the right one!

Whats the best choice for under $50?

Is the Freezer 7 Pro the way to go or is there something better? (obviously im wanting to overclock a bit)

I've got the freezer 7 pro...couldn't be happier. The highest temp I have ever recorded stress testing or even gaming 52C under load! I have an overcloked E2180 @ 3ghz and most of the time the temp only hits 46C under load. If you look around you can find this cooler cheap! I got mine for $27 shipped, but have found to for $22 shipped.

Keep in mind the freezer 7 pro already comes with a fan and even thermal paste!:D

Hmm how come I really dont see people talk about the Tuniq Tower 120 cooler? It has great reviews everywhere and its only $40.

In terms of cooling performance,

Thermalright Ultima 90 > Tuniq Tower 120 > Scythe Ninja > AC Freezer 7 Pro

The Xigmatek HDT-S1283 falls somewhere in the performance neighborhood of the Tuniq and Ultima 90.

Tuniq Tower and Scythe Ninja are massive coolers. Ultima and Freezer are smaller. Xigmatech's somewhere inbetween.

The Xigmatek/Kingwin is actually better than the Ultima 90, in one test it was better than the TRUE 120.

And who did the test? Was the TRUE120 properly lapped? etc. etc.

/thermalright fanboy, etc.

some how i doubt the tuniq tower beats out the ninja., especially with that fan.

With a medium to high speed fan, it does.

However, with low speed fans, the Ninja is still king (overall). Even beats the TRUE 120. :)

are you talking about the Scythe Ninja that is $70 or the ninja mini?

The all copper ninja that is 70 $, while shiny, just isnt worth it. I was talking about the regular ninja revision b

Running the Ultima-90 with Scythe Kama 92mm PWM (< $10 @ frozencpu I believe) fan on an E8400@3.7ghtz.
Load -
vcore: 1.120
Core #0: 57C
Core #1: 57C

Pushing the vcore up enough to get 4.0ghtz (say ~ 1.32) and it heats up real quick, around 73C under load.

This is with Zalman thermal paste, not AS5 (had it left over from the 9700nt on my quad).

If you plan on going > 3.8ghtz go with the TRUE-120, otherwise this TRU-90 is great.

On a side note, this was the easiest (3rd party) HSF I've ever installed.

Where can I find a Thermalright Ultra 120 extreme? looked around but no one has it.

If I cant find it for a good price, ill probably just go with the Tuniq Tower.

The design is basically the same as the TRUE120, so as long it is roughly the same size one should expect similar performance. Does seem to be pretty cheaply priced though...

for $30 you can get the coolermaster geminII, works insanely good.

The Gemini II is a mediocre performer at best. It was a good deal at $5-10 AR. At $30 it's a joke, and the only thing insane about it is how huge and difficult to work with the thing is.

As mention in previous posts the Xigmatek HDT 1283 seems to be the best bang for the buck atm. You can check the tests of this http://www.frostytech.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=233&page=5
Simlar in design and size to the true120 and it performs on par w/ many top rated hsf for around half the price. the egg has it on sale right now and i just picked up one for $32 shipped.

no, unless your mentaly challenged its hard. Its a BOARD cooler, it cools the CPU as well as surrounding components dumbshit. If they wanted it to be just a cpu cooler they would have made it smaller.

Just an update... I went with the Xigmatek after reading all of the reviews. Im really excited to see how this thing performs.

Not quite expecting a TRUE, but something darn close. :)

Wow. That was harsh and uncalled for. I know Silent knows what he's talking about, so I'd check that attitude at the door if you want to last around here. Insulting members is not a way to impress the staff.

Furthmore;

First, a lot of heatsinks these days are indeed difficult to work with because the heatsink itself overhangs the mounting, so there is often limited clearance.

Secondly, almost all heatsink will help cool not only the processor, but other board components as well. Most of them always have, or at least the quality and well designed models.

the Big Typhoon is pretty good, could give that a try.

or the Ultima-90 beat that?
