my buddy has a dvd-burner and he has a bunch of dvd's that his son likes to beat up... sooo... he'd just like to find a program that will copy them without having to worry about the copyright protection.

totally legit purposes.

NO, DVD X copy is the single WORST program you can ever use to backup your movie DVDs. Its full of bugs, doesn't work half the time, and will cause havoc with your system.

The best and most foolproof way to backup DVDs is to do the following:

(1) Use dvd decrypter from http://www.dvddecrypter.com/ (free but please donate to support the author) to rip the DVD onto your computer hard drive. All you have to do is just press the button and remember the directory that it saved to which is in big block text right in front of you the whole time it's ripping; and then use:

(2) Clone DVD from http://www.elby.ch/en/products/clone_dvd/index.html (free for 30 days and $40 after that) to burn the DVD backup on the hard drive onto a DVD. You can just straight burn it with all the options or you can take out video and audio portions you don't want. It can be simply three clicks and you burn or you can customize the DVD to your pleasure.

I have tried ALL the so-called easy to use programs and none even come close to this combination in price and performance. I have NEVER been unable to backup a DVD using this method and I have NEVER burned a coaster with this method (400+ DVDs). You won't find anything simpler and better for backing up your DVDs.
