What is the best Encryption software out there that lets you customize boot screen message?

For example, make it look like the PC is broken:

OEPdhxE.jpg


TrueCrypt used to have it. But the successor VeraCrypt - for some reason doesn't want to install on my Dell Notebook. (doesn't pass the initial boot test)

I thought VeraCrypt did this. I have heard DiskCryptor is pretty respectable, although I have no experience with it myself.

I'd love to use VeraCrypt but cant install it on my Dell lXPS aptop.

There is some issue with bootloader that i cant figure out.

Do you think Bitlocker is good enough? I've encrypted the drive but can't tell if it's working as it's booting straight to Windows login screen. Not sure how safe it is.

Personally I don't trust Bitlocker, but it really depends on who you are trying to protect your data from.

I have had my external hard drives picked up at the airport and the monkeys demanded that I open them so they could look through them. Couple that with the fact that it's supposed to be rediculously easy to bypass bitlocker. There is also a known bug that completely disables bitlocker during upgrades and large updates. Also on top of all this is 'supposedly' microsoft has backdoors into this shit for lawenforcement. It would make sense in a way really.
 
Are you convicts of America or free citizens? You can't leave the country without being probed and your data checked.

This is actually the only case of use of drive encryption in 99,9% of cases. It almost never is needed but it always causes or escalates problems. The 0,1% of cases when it's beneficial is when a drive gets stolen. Or the owner is a criminal with stuff to hide from the law, which I don't really count as beneficial either.

If you are leaving the country with encrypted data, that's the least of your concerns. Entering another country with encrypted data can get you in ridiculous amounts of trouble, depending on what country you are entering and how severe their laws are on encryption.

For some countries, you can guarantee that a virus will be planted and your data snooped on. E.g. China or Russia. If you have to go to country like this, best advice is to "sanitize" your phone and your laptop. For a PC, do a full backup before you go. When you return home, wipe the disk and restore from your backup.

I have done a LOT of international travel and thumb drives, externals, everything I kept encrpted. My laptop ran FDE all the time, which admitedly has caused me headaches but I have had many a drive stolen from my room/bag and even an entire laptop once.

Most countries now have laws where you have absolutely no right to lock or secure your electronics against search, encluding encryption while traveling. They can sieze your computers, phones, and hard drives and go through them, or copy them with impunity completely legally and without so much as probable cause.
 
^^ and thats why you travel with nothing and store it somewhere it is accessible when you need it, unless of course you have gigs and gigs of data you need to carry.
 
Luckily here in EU we have data PROTECTION laws that enforce the citizens privacy. Just recently a copyright troll was denied IP information in court due to the connection owners right to privacy...

That why in the OP post i asked for an encryption software that would make it look like your notebook is broken. (you can make up any bullshit story like "i passed the x-ray and now it's not loading")

Less questions asked that way.

I could setup a second (decoy) OS, but that's just extra work.

It always sparks interest, what exactly you just have on your computers that you go to such lengths to hide.
 
I can understand why protect your privacy. What if you had letters and pictures of your wife and kids that say passed away 2 months ago. It's none of there business and should have the right to look at them or even read the letters. But you have these f@cking a$$holes who say hey your hiding something you must be a criminal. People are to stupid for there on good!!
