pfsense

It's all based on horsepower of the CPU, the NIC that you use on the host, and...most importantly..the upload speed at each location (assuming asymmetrical connections on both ends)
I've seen a little ancient wrt54g with DD-WRT handle all that the broadband connection could handle....so I doubt any choice of partially decent hardware or distro will make much of a difference unless you have some massive pipe or you're doing a lot of concurrent client connections to it.

how about untangle..??

Doesn't support PPTP VPN. It has OpenVPN. Works very well, easy to setup and use. However..you stated PPTP.

my mistake. any other distros beside pfsense that has pptp support. i can seem to get my NIC recognized in pfsense but untangle works..
