What is the best cpu for getting the highest fps in apex legends. I am fine with doing overclocking on unlocked cpus.

I-9 9900KF

I-9 9900KS is the best but it runs really hot so you might want the cooler KF version.

With AMD the 3900X is really cheap I would go with that because it has lower thermals 105 watts and it cheaper by about 150.00 plus it's a 12 core chip.

Any of the 9900k variants since it's the same cpu rebadged. The 3900x comes close as well so I'd personally get that instead.

It's a Source-engine game, so scaling actually goes above 6c/12th

But they ran into a GPU-scaling wall on the RTX 2080- Ti at 720p, so it' s really not clear.

But yeah, get 8 Intel cores fastest overclock youcan get.

See here, where 3900x get beaten:

I thought apex wasn't using many cores.

It scales to at least six cores. But the latest round of processor have such a high clock speed, that you'll hit over 100fps with only 4 cores.
It's hard to tell how many cores something is using when you don't do a thorough review...and only two websites I linked have bothered doing anything on Apex.

The DSOG review I linked uses an ancient i7 4930K. That.s 6 cores at 3.3 ghz. and two architecture generations older than Skylake. The lower per-core performance means you can clearly see the 6 threads scaling!

The 9900k has a quad-core turbo speed of 4.7 GHz, so it will get nearly the same amount of work done at 4 cores at that i7 4930K takes 6 to do! This is why it's become harder to tell just how many cores it taks to do somethigng!

If you want the best performance/core, Coffee Lake is where you should go. The i5 9600kf is an impressive value unlocked 6 core at only $200, and should produce numbers the same as that DSOG review: 144 fps min/max

Or just go overkill with the 9900k.

You will have to buy a video card with enough power t do that frame rate, but the good news s that Nvidia's post-launch drivers are now competitive with AMD's parts.

I imagine a 2070 Super will be able to hit that framerate for you at 1080p,

Ok if it scales to 6 cores does that mean that an overclocked 9700k or a 3800X would perform just as well as corresponding high end parts from each brand? I am looking to push 200 fps but I wont be setting the settings to high. I might do 1440p in the future but I think that will be more graphics card dependent right?

Also a side note, right now I have a gtx 1070ti, with a i7 2600k OC at 4.2. If I upgrade the CPU will I get more fps with the 1070 or will I be bottlenecked by the 1070?

What's your intended resolution? if 1080p, your 1070 Ti will probably top-out at 100-110 fps average on high. Closer to 180-200 on 720p.

I'm basing my guess on launch week drivers, playing it on my GTX 1060 6gb (60fps average). They have improved the drivers, and your card is 1.6 times faster than mine. So (if not processor limited) 100-110 fps sounds about right!

Unfortunately, I have no data on whether you will be processor-limited (it will use all your cores, but I have no idea how much behind Skylake Zen 1 is in this game), so you're going to have to test it yourself. Run the game at 720p, and see how high your average frame rate gets.

If you hit over 150 fps at 720p, then your processor is definitely working fast enough!

If you want to pursue high-end twitch shooters at max fps, you're going to have to learn how do run tests on your own. Most websites are not going t test your particular hardware combination.

But with six fast coes, you should already be about 20% faster than that i7 4930K. give IT A SHOT AT 720p, and turn vsybc off.

I always try to target native resolution which is 1080p in my case. I will try to lower the resolution and see what happens.

Right - you're running a test to prove to yourself if you're CPU-limited or not.

I would first verify that you get the average framerate I estimated for you at 1080p (100-110 fps)

then retest at 720p, and see how high your framerate climbs.

If you can't get framerate above your 1080p baseline when you drop the resolution down to 720p, then you're CPU-limited. Buf if you get it in the 150-200 fps range, then you may be satisfied enough with that 2600x.

You can always spend your money on a video card upgrade. Or if you're jut a little short of the 720p performance target you want, you could grab the 3600x and try that. But you won't know *how* you should spend your money until you compare 1080p versus 720p on that 2600x. Just let us know the results, so we can help out with the recommendations?

Just go with a amd CPU you lose a tiny bit of fps but it's a much better all-around cpu

Well, looks like you're CPU-limited for the most part. The only place we see the massive performance increase we were looking for with 720p was during the drop to the surface - and that's understandable because nothing CPU-heavy is really happening until you land.

Now that we have numbers , you can compare therm to this 9900k test. They get over 200- fps average on a 2080 ti at 1080p low:

https://www.tweaktown.com/articles/...hmarked-core-i9-9900k-latest-gpus/index4.html

The 9900k can hit that no-problem. You can probably get exactly the same performance out of the 9700k, for about $100 less.

You're also going to need a new video card, as your 1070 Ti is about as fast as an RTX 2060. RX 5700 or RTX 2070 Super are your minimums to hit 190-200 fps at low 1080p. Or you can go all -in on 2080-Ti.

But, you can try the new CPU first, and see how far that boosts you at 720p.
Because this upgrade isn't going to be cheap.

Thanks, ya unfortunately seems like its a whole system upgrade. Not that I should complain given how long this 2600k lasted.

Or you can wait for Zen 3. It supposed to add an additional 15% IPC over Zen 2, and should be out later this year.

Price should b around $200 for a maxed-out 6-core. And you could reuse your motherboard and ram.

Performance should be identical to the 9700k in most games. My best guess for launch would be August. Until then, you're getting 120-130 fps out of your current CPU + GPU

I might need to step up to a 6core soon - but it's been flying on my system with no overclocks at 3440×1440 on my i7 w 2080ti. Gsync locks in 120fps but I have no AA and a couple other settings at non max.
