Best CPU cooler

Whats the Current Best (Not regarding Noise) CPU Cooler on the market.
I am talking an Air cooler as well.
I want to overclock my AMD64X2 when I get it but I dont want to watercool.

So am I correct in saying the XP120 is pretty much the best air cooler as long as you get a good fan. I mean the XP120 and XP90c are pretty customizable. From a low noise fan to a heavy duty cooler.

what about the new Zalman... the loopdy-pipe one? hmmm... does not apppear to be out yet tho... Anyways, I love my Hyper 6! It's a heavy beast, but it cools very well, and I only have one fan on it...

Scythe SCNJ-1000 Ninja looks pretty amazing, even with the silly name.

I'd also look at the Thermalright SI-120 instead of the XP-120, since the former is compatable with more motherboards & performs as well (or better).

Here a link comparing various current heatsinks including some of the mentioned ones in this thread. Based on the review, The best one in terms of thermal performance is the Asus Star Ice (but your ears will bleed...).

But what i would suggest instead is to get a heatsink that has a 120mm fan, and stick in the most powerfull fan you can get (ex 130cfm deltas)

Well, I don't really like it because it has many of the typical Thermaltake characteristics.

- Way too heavy
- Expensive
- Base finish not so good
- Performance out of the box not so good
- Frickin' huge!

You can find a better product out there if you do a little research.

I'm a big fan of the cooler master hyper 6+. Has my 3200 winnie @ 2.6 ghz and 1.65v (2ghz 1.38v stock) and I'm 31-33c idle and 42-44c full load, which is pretty damn respectable.

um, not all TT product are like that. The Big Typhoon turns out to be one of the good ones. It is cheaper than the xp120, it has better thermal performance, thanks to the cooper core and heatpipes also the fins are more dense. Not to mention it comes with a fan as oppose to the xp-120.

For the base finish, people can lap them anyways.

The XP-120 has a copper core and heatpipes also. Having the fins too dense is more of a problem if anything. Too much airflow going through too small of an area means less effective airflow and more noise produced. Nobody should have to lap their brand-new heatsinks to get maximum performance...

- you really cannot compare the noise level that way. It all depens on which fan you stick on the xp120 (i can stick a delta and your claim will be false). I have not seen any review where both were using the same fan so we cannot know if too much airflow is bad for densely finned heatsinks. I highly doubt it is the case for the Big Typhoon, maybe in a heatsink that is much much more densely finned.

- and saying that "Nobody should have to lap their brand-new heatsinks to get maximum performance" is like saying "Nobody should overclock their CPU in order to get maximum performance". If you have the means to unlock great potential, you should. Period.

-I am not saying that the xp120 sucks, i am just saying that claiming that "since most TT products sucks, hence the Big Typhoon sucks" is biased and is false.
