Hi!
Im looking for the best gaming headset for competitive play. I'm currently playing CS:GO. I don't really have a cap of how much to spend I just want the best :)

I will be using this on-board motherboard soundcard:

Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H Socket 1155 VGA DVI HDMI 8 Channel.. | Ebuyer.com

Is it good enough or will I need something else?
Im also aware I might need a clip on Mic for some headsets.

I've been looking at these what do you think of them:
Audio Technica ATHAD700 Open-air Dynamic Headphones ATH-AD700 42005141654 | eBay

Can you guys give me some advice and suggestions please?

EDIT: Just found out I have this soundcard:
I also have this soundcard:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Creative-Sou.../dp/B000BF168E
Is it good? Should I use it?

I wouldn't get a Forte, they have problems with failing capacitors on the headphone output that cause popping sounds. Even a Xonar DG would be better than onboard for you though, since it supports Dolby Headphone.

Ya avoid auzentech. Good equipment for the most part but lots of people reporting horrid customer/technical support issues.

Like suggested try ssomething like one of the xonar cards. I've always been a bigger fan on a nice set of stereo headphones and a clip on Mic. Im still rocking my senn hd555's and a zalmon clip on Mic and love it.

Good luck. Its weird to say but I've been using one of those cheap ass walmart logitech headsets for 5 years now I think. Things cracking apart. foams log gone but I can tell where anyone is on a map just from light foot steps. I keep wanting to upgrade but this is becoming my lucky headset. Gotten me through too many clutches to let it go.

Do not buy the audio technica, I owned one and it just messed up positional audio somehow.

The PC360 is probably decent, if price is really no object you could check out the beyer dynamic MMX300

Others options are to get the antlion mod mic and attach it to any good headset. IMO thats alot better than the zalman

How can the AD700 mess it up? I used to have AD900s (now RS180) and I can tell where the sound is coming from.

I have the ATHAD700 and love them, I hate using my normal computer speakers after a session of using the them lol.

I've tried DH1 - DH2 - x-fi CMSS3d headphone, i always choose the latter one for competitive gaming.

Auzentech x-fi forte features x-fi cms3d just like the regular x-fis, but it also features an intergrated headphone amp and better drivers, infact auzentech cards are supposed to be crash-free when playing unreal 2.x games with hardware openAL support enabled on 64bit OSs.

I still play Killing Floor from time 2 time, good positional audio is essential in that game, you need to react like you have a second pair of eyes on your back and x-ray vision for those pesky stalkers, when I untick the "system driver" option in the Audio tab, i can expect a ctaudk.sys BSOD in the next 5-40mins of gameplay :( So i have to get 3d sound by using ALchemy instead, auzentech drivers are supposed to be better at handling hardware openAL.

AD700 are lovely but with the PC360 you get a very convenient mic and inline volume control, HD555s with antlion mic are good option too if you are on a tighter budget, which the OP stated that he's not :)

I dont honestly know how they messed up the sound but they just did, I litterally played for 2 years on them and always assumed because they were better headphones than I had ever used they were good. But I always complained about not hearing right. Like things were not precise or accurate. One day I had a LAN party and we were all trying each others headphones. The unanimous conclusion was that the AT cans were just bad positionally. They sounded good for music though. So after that I stopped using them.
