Best "Claw grip" mouse?

So, recently my old ass Logitech optical mouse broke. I had it for around 10'ish years (lol) and it worked fine for me, no fancy buttons or nothing but it felt good on my fingers.

So after some looking around last week for a new mouse I ended up going with a logitech G500 for the price/performance.

At the time I didn't know about a "claw grip" vs a "palm grip" and how different they could be and thought it'd be ok for me to use how I've always used a mouse, but I was wrong.

I ordered it from amazon because no stores near me had it on display (people told me it'd be best to physically test out mice to find one) but no store here had a G500 or Razer mice, etc which is what I was looking for. So I blindly jumped on it.

I got the mouse yesterday and after trying to use it last night/today, it's just not my style. Trying to use the claw grip (all fingers without my palm touching the mouse) is just simply not comfortable. The mouse is too big/wide for it.

So now I'm going to return it and I'm trying to figure out what mouse would be good for a "claw gripper" to get?

So far I've found two, the G9 or the Razer Lachesis.

I'm looking for suggestions and opinions from those other claw grippers out there.

I really like the Razer Orochi. You'll need an extension cord if you're using it with a desktop, but it's the perfect size for a fingertip grip (vs a claw grip where the base of your hand is touching the back of your mouse). Plus it has the extra side buttons, which Razer's other small mice seem to lack.

I've had an mx518 since release and am a "claw gripper". I like it a lot.

I'm a claw grip person and found the G5 to be a great device. Very comfortable.

I have the G9x and like the ability to swap between a claw and more palm like grip. Tried the MX518 and it was very bulk. The Sidewinder X8 was nice, but not as snug as the G9x. Currently using the large "palm" frame because the claw one is a bit small for me (and I don't have chunky hands).

The mx518 and G5 are pretty much the same shape, if you couldnt claw grip the G500 the others wont be any different. Its a function of hand size, whats comfortable to one gamer is too big/too small for another. Mice are like buying a pair of shoes, gotta try them on first and see if it fits.

Sounds like you need a smaller mouse like the g9/g9x.

I went the opposite way, I used a mx518 palm grip for years. Got a g9x, didn't like it at first (seemed too small), got the custom large frame for it so I could palm it. A year later, guess what I'm using now...the smallest precision frame with claw grip. My style changed as I experimented with the different grips, weights and sensitivities at max DPI.

creative makes a claw only type mouse, the fatalty, i guess modeled after the gamer and his style. I only mention it, cuz i got it free after rebate, and worked kinda well, but it's been replaced by many other mice.

As towards the Lachesis... It's a wierd shaped mouse. It just never feels comfortable when using palm, claw or fingertip grips...

Look @ Intellimouse Explorer 3.0, that's what's fit the bill since I stopped using my old dell/logitech cheapie

I love my G9, I was disappointed at the small size at first but after the first hour of use it turned out to be the best mouse I've used to date.

I went through the EXACT same thoughts after I purchased mine. I thought, damn what a dissappointment. After a few rounds of L4D2, Totally blew my mind how comfortable the mouse was.

Same here I was kinda like huh when I first got it then it wound up being my favorite mouse, much better than the old G5/MX518 shape.

Don't get the Lachesis, its bigger than the G500, and its absolutely the worst mouse ever for claw grip.

Yeah the Lachesis is way too long. The G500/G5/MX518 are all too bulky and fat in the middle. Personally I would recommend a G9/G9x or Xai. The G9 body is very short which was an aspect of the mouse I always liked. The Xai is just a good mouse all around.

I'm confused. claw grip = just fingers on the sides of the mouse?

My advice would be to go die in a fire so that mouse devs have one less "claw" gripper to market towards and can focus more on palm grips as they should! ;)

Edit: Deathadder FTW!

The problem with "palm" grip is that it lacks the fine control and quickness of a finger/claw gri, at least for me.

If I use my whole palm it's slower + you move your whole wrist/hand. With a finger only grip you can make quick precise movements much more quickly.

I think for me it's come down to either the Logitech G9x or the Steelseries XAI. Gonna have to drive about an hour away to test them though since that's the nearest store that has them, don't wanna end up picking one that doesn't feel right again.

I have pretty long fingers but not a 'large hand' and I claw my Mx518 all day long.
My favorite mouse by far.

Claw gripper myself, love the G9 and also recommend it for anyone with small hands.

After going to best buy I ended up getting the Steelseries Xai. It just fits the best for my grip compared to the Razers they had and the G9X. Doesn't have the flashy lights or changeable grips and weight systems, but it feels good in my hand.

The original Intellimouse was my all time favorite mouse, but i've settled for an MX518 and i have zero regrets :D .

But imagine somehow replacing the engine and laser of an old mouse that fit very well... hmmm :)
