What is the best case for me to get? I want it to have great airflow, plenty of room for an SLI video card configuration, and plenty of expansion bays for at least 2-3 hard drives. I don't mind spending a little more, if it is actually a better case. I want to build a new computer, but I am waiting on the next lineup of NVIDIA cards to come out (amoung other things). Do prices on cases fall much? Should I wait until I am going to be ready to build the system to buy the case? What do you think of the CM stacker 830? I think I read somewhere that it is the only "SLI certified" case? Is it the "ultimate case"?

I'm partial to Lian Li cases. I currently have a PC-60 (that my system is currently in) and a PC-70 (that I'm REALLY slowly modifying for 120mm fans and water cooling).
 
Any other case suggestions? I want to make sure I get a good sampling of opinions :)

Well, i'm getting the Stacker 830 Evolution for my upcoming build. Although, i don't know whether it'll fit a Silverstone OP1000 PSU. For me, it's either this or the Silverstone TJ09; but, to me, it seems to lack features.
 
a lotta people dont like the looks but i like the nzxt apollo. it had good airflow and has quiet fans
 
Awesome - thanks for all the replies . I am going to read up on each of those - I have a lot of research now to do on each of those :eek: . I notice the TJ-09 comes up quite often :) .

Dan, do you prefer the black Stacker 830 over the silver one?
I'm either going to get the 832 (black) or 830 Evolution (either black or silver), but i can't decide which. :confused:

Yes I do. The silver ones show finger prints more easily than the black cases do, but you can see the dust better on the black ones. I'd go with black but that's just me. Kyle's machine is in a Silver 830 case while mine's in a black one. Both are great looking though so you really couldn't go wrong either way.
 
I have a Lian-Li PC50, PC60, PC70 and a PC2000B Plus II.

It should be obvious what my preference is :)

Anything from the Lian Li V Cool series, the Silverstone TJ-09 and TJ-07 along with the MM UFO if you need loads of room (the Lian Li 343 is worth considering too).

G70 is another good one.

The 830 being 'SLi certified' is a crock, the build quality isn't on par with the Silverstone or Lian Li cases and it relies on silly amounts of fans for cooling.
 
i agree with the lian li g70, plenty of room, good air flow and a good price.

v2000 or v1200 (1200 is a lil shorter but just as long)
 
Antec P182/P180

They have excellent airflow (all 120mm fans) with seperate chambers to seperate hot components.
Also, by removing the middle HD cage you can fit enormously long gfx cards with ease and have loads of room to spare.

You can fit 4 HDs in the lower chamber HD rack.

4 HDs in the bottom - 2 or 3 more in the middle - 3 or 4 5.25 bays - plenty of room for an 8800GTX or 2 if you remove the middle hd bay - will fit pretty much all psu's - i think

quiet - GREAT airflow and they look sleek as hell.
 
I strongly recommend reeading the SPCR review of the p180, it fully explains everything about the case. The p182 is basically a p180 but with some small improvements such as holes for watercooling hoses, mobo tray moved forward so that you can run wires behind the mobo, etc.

I got a windowed P180 and it didnt affect the noise absorbtion from the case at all. I got it in the uk from kustompcs:

I personally would spend the extra to get the p182 because the raised mobo tray helps enormous amounts with wire management

Yes - I have a P180 and messed it up cutting a top section radiator so I picked up a P182 and I was very impressed with the small # of improvements towards cable management and even water cooling.

I still find the mid section dual hard drive cage useless however it is removable and that is where my Swiftech pump will live.
 
Doesn't anybody like the Stacker 830 Evolution, then? I really want to get it when i build a computer in a couple of months, since i find most of the Lian Li and Silverstone cases look to plain and boring. The TJ09 is becoming more appealing to me, though. What are the best cases for someone like me?

Mmm, you have a point. But, with the Stacker 830, i like the option to to add multiple fans, using 4-in-3 bays, at the front of the case and the air vents scattered around the case. Whereas, with a lost of Lian Li and Silverstone cases, you're limited in the position and quantity of fans you can install with ghetto-modding them. I understand many people are not fond of the idea that, with the Stacker 830 cases, just having as many fans and air-vents as possible- since it doesn't always equate to efficient cooling. But, with the Silverstone TJ-09, say: would it offer superior cooling over that of the Stacker 830 Evolution?

Choosing a case is too difficult.. :confused:

What does everybody think of Thermaltake's Mozart case; or the Armor/Kandalf, for that matter?

im with him they are the best case.
 
I really like the Silverstone TJ-07, get a black one with a window. It is a very big case with plenty of room for all your components.
 
I got you covered in the airflow department. :) I just got the Performance PC-s Lian-Li G70 "Goliath", and I absolutely love it! It dropped my cpu and gpu idle temps by about 4-5C each. Not to mention dual PSU's and plenty of room. And with the "Goliath" version they replace 2 120mm fans with 2 140mm fans that are super quiet, and of course that infamous 250mm side panel fan that blows directly on the gpus(which was a real selling point for me). Anyway, have a looksy at my build in it:

I'm quite partial to the v1000 - separate area for your hard drives, more then enough room to run the SLI video cards - and the Lian-Li quality to boot!
 
Sigh... I need to build a replacement for my aging Dell desktop, but there are just too many options. I am reading up on all the cases that have been suggested, but I can't really tell if one is better than the other. I am only slightly leaning towards a CM 830 EVO because supposedly it is the only case that is nvidia SLI certified? There are just too many options. :eek: . Would I greatly regret buying any one of these cases over the others?
