I build my computer a little over a year ago and got the cheapest card I could find with decent performance which is a 7600gs. What can I get this day in age for $100? would prefer it to turn 2 copies of wow at the same time, mine struggles a bit right now. I have one X16 Pci-e slot

you can get a 9600gt, 8800gt or 8800gts (92nm) card...

all are good for $100 and under and can play most new games.

You can easily get a 3870 for around $70....you MIGHT even be able to snag a 4850 for a little bit over $100.

I got a NIB visiontek hd4850 off of here for $135 shipped
I have seen 3870 for $70
buy a new 8800gt for $115 and get it over with bro

I think I wanna change my vote above. I see Tiger has a 9800GT for $99MIR. If you wanna go that route. I tend to perform the IQ look of the 38xx series over the 8xxx and 9xxx myself but if price alone is guiding the decision the 9800GT is a lot of card for $99MIR

I'm in right about the same boat. I've got a 2400HD right now and it's struggling a little bit. It's going into an Inspiron 518. I haven't built anything in a while so I'm a bit out of tune with what's better than what in the graphics game right now. 8600GT or 8800GT? Big difference? 512 or 1G?

For the $$ Toph is hard to beat the 9800GT. That Tiger deal for $99 is hard to pass by. All this season's games FarCry2, FallOut3, Warhead, etc will run ok with the 9800GT provided your cpu is respectable as well. If you run 1920x1200 you might be a bit compromised if trying to max everything out

Yeah, that does look like a pretty good deal. The cpu in mine is an E4600 (2.4G, 2M). Nothing earth shattering, but it's a big step up from what I had.

I guess my other question is about power supply. These 518's only come with a 300W supply, and it might not have the plug I need for a 9600. I don't know if the same goes for the 8XXX. It does seem like dell stopped using proprietary supplies though, so I think I can throw a standard power supply into it.

Sorry for hijacking. I didn't mean to.

Yes and no. There are aftermarket PSU upgrades for Dell but they are not mere standard ATX.
This one below would suit your needs quite well.

So while you might be looking at a $100 video card you're also talking about another $100 for a decent PSU.
