I've finally decided I want to build my own WCing system. However, I'm not sure what Heatercore I should use. I'm no good with cars, so I don't know what model heatercore looks like what. All I know is I'd like for it to have the best bang for its buck, use 12/ID tubing and fit a single 120mm fan. Any suggestions?

Weapon heater cores and shrouds totally rock, several model are made these days.

A word from the Designer/Maker:

" The heatercore shrouds that were sent to (Steve) were designed and created by two pc water-cooling enthusiast that go by the names "Weapon" and "Malph" on some of the more popular liquid-cooling websites. The final product was achieved after a few different prototypes were tested and suggestions made by the general water-cooling community were incorporated into the design. The shroud line-up has been expanded to include the 2-199/342 heatercore for a more compact package, to the 2-192 for the more extreme water-cooler which measures in at about 10.5" by 10" in size.
The 302 heatercores that were sent have been modified, painted, and are equipped with 5/8" hose barbs for maximum flow.
For information on different versions of these heatercore/shroud combinations people can contact:
rchedister@gmail.com or wcmp@shaw.ca for Canadian customers"

I use an '86 Chevy Cavalier heatercore that is perfect for 2x120mm fans, and I hardly get any variation between idle and load temps. Make sure you paint your heatercore when you decide on one, my first (unpainted) one corroded over 1.5yrs time. My new one is fully painted, hasnt corroded, and the paint made no noticeable impact on cooling effeciency.

My boneville still looks nice and shiny, not a hint of rust. In fact, my block is also still shiny inside and out, which I don't understand since I didn't clean it or coat it with anything.

What I have heard is an 86 chevette heater core is supposed to be really good.

Does that '86 Cavalier fit one or two 120 fans? I'm looking for the best h'core to fit a single 120 fan, or at least something close to that size. Looks don't matter, as it'll be hidden away in the case...

Also, are those Weapon h'cores made for cars, or custom for PCs? Do they have a site? I'd rather go for something I can pick up at an auto shop...

The Weapon cores are from your local auto parts store. You might just as well email them to ask what they have now, they are always coming out with new stuff.

From the last email from Mike: "I have just finished the shroud for the chevette heatercore (2-261) shown in the attachment and I would like to get the word out on these. If you can use a smaller core (6 " x 6") "

Chevet = 1x120mm , 76-84 fullsize ($48 CAD) GM: buick/Cadi/Olds 2x120 and they are all copper and the one I use.

Has anyone been able to get into contact with Weapon. I've been trying for a week to buy one of his cores with no responce from e-mails or PM's.

Keep in mind you will need to put barbs on the auto parts store core. The 84-86 chevette cores are the most popular for single 1200mm fans and shrouds are available or you can easily make your own. To do it yourself, which imo is much more fun, you will need a hacksaw, small propane tourch, plumbers solder, flux, sandpaper. Soldering is not hard. Fill the core with water to just below you solder line to prevent desoldering the core parts when you solder on the barbs. The brass barbs sold at home supply stores work well. you are looking for a 3/8 pipe to 1/2 in hose barb if you going with 1/2 id hose.

look on overclockers.com hints and tips watercooling, several how-tos on which heatercore, how to solder the bards, make shrouds etc.

If you never have soldered its not hard to learn with a couple of copper sweat fittings to practice on but you might want to buy one with barbs if you not comfortable with soldering yourself or would have to buy the torch (about $12).

Wwapon's had one of those for a while. :p The monster or something.

I'd spring for a 120.2 rad if I could. That or the Thermochill HE160.

Those quads make me want to buy one of those huge double-wide cases so I can use one :D

mount it on the window on a normal case? ;)

lol, at least you wouldnt have to worry about cleaning up your case wiring, you wouldnt see any of it!

LOL...I can make one of those for MUCH MUCH less. And they sell the 2x120mm rads for 49.99. I sell them painted and with fittings for $35! and mine fit in your drive bay! (theirs do not)

Also, on the Chevette...they are discontinued. You can not order them any longer from parts stores. Only stock is what they have left.
