i need help deciding on a new vid card....currently i have a g4 ti4600 128mb medusa.....i can't decide between a ati 9800xt or a GeForce FX 5950 ULTRA 256MB DDR...the fx is about $410 and the 9800 is $461

Defenitely the 9800xt, but your system will be a bottleneck for the card. you could save alot of cash and get a 9800pro 128mb which will have very close performance for about half the price.

the 4600ti is still an awesome card. You should wait a few more months till they announce the r420 cause then the 9800's will be quite a bit cheaper than they are now.

Waiting for those price drops is a good idea. But I think that your motherboard, CPU and memory is holding back the 5950U/9800XT's performance potential somewhat. And by the time that the new R420 and NV40 will be shipping in mass quantities, you'll have to upgrade your motherboard, processor and memory in order for those new cards to even work at all. Which will make current top-of-the-line cards even better values than they are today.

i was also planning on upgrading cpu/mobo....but i don't know which to get for those...im a little short on cash atm but i was thinkin a amd 64bit and an Asus A7V8X-X

Yeah you'll definetly want a nicer CPU/mobo combo before you upgrade your video card.

Get the 9800 pro 256Mg for about $300 and take the rest of the cash and get a cpu.You could be rocking by next weekend,In a few months get a new MoBo.

yes

$229 9800 Pro at newegg.. then use the extra $200 and get a faster CPU/mobo/ram. After selling your current setup, you should have enough to a really fast system.

Put that cash into upgrading your rigs specs and wait for the new cards to come out. Because it looks like your rig will do be a bottleneck.

i agree now would not be the best time to upgrade your card or thinking about waiting and saving up on all your parts would probably be the best idea as new technologies (prescott, newer and lower priced A64s, PCI express, nv40 and r420) are coming out this year. waiting for the others may take a while so if you really want to upgrade wait on the video card.

alright cool guys thanks a lot...looks like ill be waiting for some new stuff to come out...by then ill have more than enough $$
