My brother's friend just ordered a computer at Best Buy. When he was at the store, he called me but I was not here. (he is 14). His mom asked my sister if there was anyway to contact me. My sister said no. I called him back later since my brother is out of town and he told me some of the specs (I guess he had a hard time reading the handwriting).
256MB Ram
GF FX 5500 video
"cool looking case"
80GB hard drive (God I hope it was a 7200rpm)
Anyway, he told me that the guy taking the order had to ask two other guys what he needed to run HL2. Typical of BB, I wouldn't trust the advice of anyone there. I don't know what the CPU was. He said he paid $900 total for this. I don't think the computer included Windows but he already has an XP disk so that will not be a problem.
He will most definitely need more memory. I can probably assume that was a cheap 128MB 5500 that they sell for $70 at newegg. Sound and lan is probably on the board. Unless he got an expensive CPU (which I doubt), he got ripped off pretty good. Even if he did, I would have spent the money on a good video card since he wants it for video games.
I really want to call him and ask him if he can cancel it but I am afraid that he won't be able to and that it might hurt their feelings that they had a few no-nothings configure a PC for them. Does anyone know if it is possible to cancel? He ordered about 24 hours ago. I am not sure if they paid already. Hell, I didn't even know BB custom built computers. All I know is that it better not be a compaq custom config or I will scream if I ever have to fix it.
