I am putting together an Intel system, decided to go with Intel because it seems dominant in the application realm. The system I am trying to keep it around $1k. I am thinking about skimping out on the videocard, and sound, and getting a good proc/RAM because it will be used for : Photo/video editing, and then typical email, internet, and small games (e.g. Freecell, Bejeweled). Here is what I have come up with for upgradability, and such. I am new to Intel so please correct something that might be bad.

ANTEC Solution case /w 350W PS :$67
ASUS P5AD2 Prenium : $269
Albatron Geforce PCX 5300 : $81
Intel LGA 775 3.2Ghz : $245
Corsair XMS2 DDR2 PC2-5400 : $364
Maxtor 120GB SATA HD : $91.50
Plextor 52x24x52 : $46
FDD: $12

Total : $1,175.50

The DFI board is no where near the same ballpark of quality that an Asus board is. Good choices on components man. I would however recommend Western Digital instead of Maxtor for the hard drive. Some people will disagree with me on that, but I see less problems out of Western Digital drives then Maxtors. I work as a service technician so I see alot of drive failures. Maxtor's getting to suck as bad as Seagate's Medalist series does.

Maxtor's quality just isn't where it used to be. When they bought Quantum and started repacking their drives as their own that' s about where they fell apart.

I say stick with Maxtor, just switch the drive..

Sir-Fragalot is right: Maxtor's quality just isn't where it used to be. When they bought Quantum and started repacking their drives as their own that' s about where they fell apart.

But for what I have seen it's just in thier SATA line... All the HDD I run are Maxtor's
IDE/ATA (internal & external). Ive never had a problem with any of them.. The only Maxtor HDD's I had problems with was with their SATA..

So the Prescott core and the new 925x would be good though instead of going for the northwoods for upgradability and what the computer will be used for? I just want to make sure that this will be a good rig, and work well.. Otherwise I think that is what I will go with, except Ill change out the Maxtor and put in a Seagate. I like seagate the best, never failed me, and they are relativily quiet. However, they are like $40 then Maxtor, Ill just bite the bullet for quality though. Thanks

ADDED: Also what about the ABIT AA8 board, which would be better, that or the Asus? [H] gave a pretty good review of the board and it seems to be good.

the ASUS is better...........but it's way more expensive. WAY MORE

oh, and I'd get an x300 video card. It seems they OC like none other.

Why not go with a DVD burner for just a tiny bit more money? I would on a video editing system.

It is not necessary for the price since the computer would not be used for games, but applications.
