Friend's 7900GT just died on him, and he's looking for a replacement. He's looking for something around the $250 range that's capable of dual monitoring as well. I've been out of the loop for a little bit, so I ask, what are the best bang for buck cards at the moment for $250? Thanks for future suggestions. :)

ATI HD 4850 @ ~$170 (can find with MIRs for about that much @ newegg, etc..., $200 MSRP) or ATI HD 4870 @ $300

What about the GTX260 with the MIR's? $259 ain't it?
I agree with the prev poster anyway. Bump it up to the 4870 at ~$300 or drop down to the 4850 at ~$170 ($150 after MIR)

I don't know, I just checked newegg and a couple were listed at ~$330, I didn't see any MIRs. I haven't followed it much, though, as the 4850 is about the upper limit of my budget :)

$250 max is kind of a tough spot since its right in between the 4850 and 4870/GTX 260. There is nothing that fills in at $250 max for right now. You could do the GTX 260 for $260 but you would have to wait on the rebate. Along those lines check out this link:

i was able to get an HIS HD4870 last night for about $319 shipped. After the whole 25% off thing in 60 days it'll be down to $242. I figure thats pretty much the same thing as waiting for rebates but probably a little more guaranteed since its an MSFT cashback thing.

Where did you buy the HD4870?

on ebay. check the link i posted. basically you goto www.live.com and do a search, i searched "blackberry phone". On the next page there will be some banners on the side that say 25% off Ebay if using Paypal, if not keep pressing F5 til you see it. Click the link and then you can search for whatever you want. Item must be purchased as Buy It Now and paid through Paypal. It'll calculate 25% off and you'll get the cashback in 60 days.

I can get a 4870 here in Canada for $289, it won't be long at all before they're in the $250 range.

Get the 4850. I just upgraded my 7900GT to 4850, and I can play games I've not been able to enjoy. Every game I own now plays smooth with 8xAA.

If you have a $250 budget then obviously you don't want to or cant spend too much on a video card. Go for the 4850, it offers great value.
