alright i got an athlon xp 2000+ on an ecs k7s5a motherboard and right now im running a volcano 9... which produces like 48dB... loud as hell, so im just trying to get a something that cools nicely and is quiet, and i dont really wanna go water cooling or anything, just want a good fan... so please help

i actually just got a zalman cnps7000-aicu yesterday... didnt fit on my mobo tho
=\

if your feeling thirfty you could alwyas get a thermalright AX-7 and yes they are still made.

Aerocool HT-101

from the reviews that I have seen, it's performance matches the performacne of a sp97 with a 92mm fan, but instead with only a 26 dba 80mm fan.

Probably any of the ones mentioned by these guys will do nicely. I'd personally suggest a Thermalright using either a Smart Fan II (speed and thus noise is manually adjustable) or if possible a quiet 92 mm fan.

It will also rip the cpu socket from the motherboard if droped from a far enough distance

1/8". Go with the Thermalright SP-97, you won't regret it.

My original plans was to get a Swiftech MCX462-V, that monster is clip on and weighs 650 grams!

So the HT-101 being only 470 grams, it's not that bad at all. If the CPU socket is ripped out THAT easily with the HT-101, I'd suspect the MCX462-V would rip out the socket when the case is simply turned around, LOL. :D

IMO, the noise of a 92mm torando for 1 to 3 degrees of performance just doesn't do it for me. But then that's just me.

The AX-7's are bad@$$...I can personally attest to this b/c I have 2. ;) TRight has updated this 'sink to the current ALX-800...it's basically the same as the AX-7:

...& the price is certainly reasonable enough. I always liked the AX-7 better than the SK models b/c: A.)they're lighter &, more importantly, B.)one can use a grill (it uses the conventional long screws to hold on the fan vs. the goofy clip dealy). I've had a few instances wherein a stray wire came loose or was in the way prior to tucking them all away & the wire got close enough to the cpu fan to worry me. If said wire got down in the fan....well you can imagine the end result. Plus u have the bonus w/ the grill of any mishaps w/ your fingers being in the wrong spot, which is not a good idea w/ a Tornado nor any high rpm fan. ;)
If you want the overall best deal as far as sinks go, head over to Newegg and order the Speeze FalconRock...one of these paired w/ an 8CM Tornado will match the performance of an AX-7 w/ the same fan.
