Best Antivirus software?

For the 50,000th post, I'll give 32 nods for Nod32.

How many times must this question be asked?

It will be asked as long as there are lemmings using Norton and McAfee who finally figure out why their systems have been slowed to crawl by the big, ugly gorillas. No disrespect to gorillas...

But I mean, it's right in the sticky! I wish people would read these things before posting. /sigh

So Norton and McAfee are telling customers not to use the [H] search function? Or even Google?

Heh heh...I was an uninformed user until a few days ago, I had a free McAfee subscription, but I saw the light and dropped it for AntiVir and Comodo. I've never really had a virus problem (I surf safe) so I don't really know how AntiVir compares to Nod32, I just know that AntiVir is good.

Antivir is pretty good. It crapped out on me once a few years ago which is when I switched to NOD32. Quick Vista support, and unlike those fags who run Symantec and McAfee, DOES NOT require ridiculous OS access to work CORRECTLY :p

Of course he's safe, he's not getting any pop ups saying he has a virus, so he must be safe :p

What I meant was that I do not go to disreputable sites, have two firewalls (router and software), several anti-spyware programs, and a good antivirus (do a scan with everything once every few days or so). When I say safe, I meant relatively speaking (relative to someone w/o antispyware programs, probably more than half the people in the world). I know I'm never totally safe.

NOD32 is amazing!! It is the bestest!

They've got a 30 day trial if you want to check it out.

I've been really happy with AVG and Avast Antivirus. Both of those are pretty good in my opinion. I will admit that I've never tried NOD32, so I can't really comment on that. Currently I am using the trial version of Windows One Care, and it seems to be pretty good.

NOD32.

It's heavily endorsed here at the [H]. I'm pretty sure no one would say anything bad about it, even if they don't use it.

Should be a sticky thread that only has a title.

"CURIOUS ABOUT AV? GET NOD32. PERIOD."

I don't know if it really needs its own sticky as it is in the sticky for this subforum for great AV products. ;)

But clearly no one reads it. With a NOD32 sticky, the title could offer the information. More chance of preventing these threads.

Too bad no one's keeping track of how many AV threads like this one exist. Would be interesting to see how many plague us per month or year :D

I for one, being a bonafide nOOb here appreciate the occasional question that prompts one of the "folks" of HF to say "OMFG, read the sticky" because thats just what I do. There are alot of stickys for us nOObs and I appreciate you pointing them to me, so I guess your work is done! And well done it is. ;)

I'm sure an admin could whip up some statistic of that, but I'm sure I don't want to see how bad it is. The new sticky should be, "Read this you stupid n00bs, because if you don't they'll be hell to pay!" Or better yet, if someone is creating a new post and the submit button scans the post for "antivirus" or the like, a pop up should come up and ask them if they read the darn stick :p

The sticky at the top is a bit dated, but is still a great resource which is why it is there.
Some of the scores referred to in the sticky have changed I believe, but in general, I feel it still serves a purpose. Once it does not, I will remove it.

Oh, I know, it's still very useful. With thousands of guests on the site at any given second, I'm sure many people notice it. It seems a lot of these threads come from people who've just signed up, probably with the one goal of finding a good AV app.

We'd probably have a dozen of these threads every day if there wasn't a sticky. Hooray for pasti...er, stickies!

Last time I looked into AVs, Kaspersky, BitDefender, and f-secure were amongst the best around. I've tried them all, including NOD32, and the one I like the most is KAV. Very user friendly, apparently excellent support, and hourly updates. On top of that it has one of the best virus detection rates out of all AVs around.

I've been using AVG Free Edition for the last couple of years and haven't been disappointed.

Had Norton AV, Kaspersky, Avast, AVG, and now using NOD32 for a few months, and all I can say is it's freaking awesome. :) Best AV I've used.

I have never tried NOD32 personally but am interested somewhat now after reading this thread (good thing it wasn't a sticky) and seeing that it appears to be highly recomended.

Generally I do not use either firewall or antivirus. Not to say I don't have them (set to manual in Services,I do not recommend that anybody else do the same) but use them once in awhile. I have AVGFree7.5 cause it is free and don't use it enough to pay for an antivirus.

I will try NOD32 out though to check out what the hype is about and compare it to what I am using now. Thanx :)

When it comes to paid anti-virus, stick with Kaspersky or NOD32. I personally use Kaspersky.
