Hello [H]

I just got done with a new desktop build and I'm looking for some recommendations on anti-virus and personal firewall software.

Free would be good but I'm willing to pay a little if need be.

Based on a good bit of the suggestions on the forum - Microsoft Security Essentials seems to be one of the more popular choices.

I use Avast Anti-Virus Free on my systems - so far, no complaints.

For a firewall choice - I've used Comodo firewall in the past, but I'm not sure if they're still recommended.

Additionally - I'll throw out a recommendation for MalwareBytes Anti-Malware. I use it as part of a weekly scan routine.

search the forums and you'll find a butt load of recommendations for Microsoft Security Essentials

you can also use Spybot Search & Destroy .. as well as SpywareBlaster ..and of course MalwareBytes anti-malware is a must ..

if you get something nasty , combofix will most likely cure your problems

No such thing as a "best anti-virus/personal firewall software". Rolls in seasons.

However, I use ESET Smart Security 5. Not saying "best", just contributing what I use.

if you have an old computer laying around and a couple nics .. you turn it into a firewall box of some sort .. I use Smoothwall Express .. with some homebrew mods .. many here use Untangle or pfsense .. there are other free firewall distros out there as well
