I ordered the Gigabyte R9 290 that was on sale at Newegg earlier in the week. It arrived last night, so I installed it and started in on some Max Payne 3 (yes, my games backlog is that far behind thanks to Amazon/Steam).

The driver that Gigabyte recommends for the card was version 13.11. I am running Windows 8.1 Professional 64-bit on the PC. The game played smoothly with every setting as high as I could set them. I did notice a little fuzziness during some scenes, but some quick research leads me to believe that it has something to do with the post-processing filtering, so I'll change those settings around when I get home tonight. Everything else seems fine and I've had no display driver crashes so far.

With my nVidia cards I've always kept the drivers up-to-date, but I have had issues in the past with ATI/AMD drivers, so I generally just stuck with what worked when I've had a card from Team Red. Is it worth updating to the current version of the AMD driver (14.301) or am I better off sticking with 13.11 until/unless I experience some issue? Or is there a different version that is better overall that I should consider installing?
 
First of all use DDU to remove your old drivers!

Works great for me on Win 8.1 Pro! If you ever have a problem with a game, cut Raptr off. It doesn't play nice with Prototype 2 for example. It hooks into game like FRAPS or MSI Afterburner would do if you have the onscreen hud enabled, and a few games don't like it touching them in certain places...
 
I don't think I have ever installed Raptr, so unless it was bundled in with a driver installation, which I generally run via advanced/custom install rather than basic/default install to avoid such additional software, then I don't believe it is there.

I did run into a minor issue last night, but that turned out to be TeamViewer. As it turns out, you can't run Max Payne 3 in full-screen mode if you have TeamViewer running in the background. Wierd, but true.

Thanks for the advice and I'll see how things go with the version 14 beta driver when I get home tonight.
 
Raptr has a "shadowplay" like feature that uses AMDs encoding hardware, so if you like recording, you should probably install it.

It doesnt use very many system resources, and you get points for playing games towards free games and giveaways.
