I have this case Antec SX1040BII and was wondering if it would be worth it mount a fan to the top or side of the case to pull hot air out. Currently i have 2 fans in front pulling cool air in. one is blowing over 3 of my hdds. Then there are 2 more fans on the rear pushing air out the back. Would it be better to have all 4 of those fans pulling air into the case from outside and adding a fan to the top and/or side to pull the hot air out the case?

I have this exact same case. It's been modded so that there's now a 92mm fan blowing down over the video card/processor.

I kinda prefer having the air blow out the back, but I guess as long as there's more air being blown into the case than blown out of it, I'd say you're fine doing whatever you want. With 4 input fans, I'd say at least 2 output fans, though.

i thought your supposed to have more outtake fans than intake....................... or the same amount of in/out. but not more intake than outtake

Applying what I know of physics, yes you'd want equal airflow in and out. If you're pumping more air into the case than you're pushing out, the air pressure in the case will be greater than it is outside. The air will then naturally seek an exit, but this mass exodus of air would, I imagine, be difficult to control. It would also lessen the efficacy of your fans as the inputs would be struggling against the outflow while the outputs would be pushing air that already wants out. The same, but reverse, would go for more outputs than inputs.

So I think ideally you want the air pressure in the case to be equal to the air pressure outside the case so that you can direct and control the airflow, where it comes in and where it goes out and also take full advantage of each fan's rated cfm.

This is all hypothetical though because I don't as yet overclock my system and so I've had no need to apply my educated guesses.

I have read elsewhere however that it's useful to increase the air pressure in the case slightly because the slight, but constant outflow of air will prevent dust from entering the case. That's something to consider.

Also, I've ordered the same Antec case and I plan on putting a blow hole in the top because it's so tall I'd expect hot air to become trapped, out of reach of the front/rear fan combo. Also something to thinkn about.

Still, I'd very much like to hear from someone with practical experience.
