looking for something that cools close to the thermalright and tuniq but cheaper in cost... and no plastic clamps, I hate those things.

The Xigmatek HDT-S1283 performs very similarly to those units and is priced between $35 and $40, with a fan included. You would need to purchase an LGA bolt-thru kit separately though, as it does use the plastic push pins.

Thanks I'll check it out, what about the AC freezer 7? got great reviews, only downside was the plastic pins, maybe with a bolt-thru kit it could do the trick.

Yeah, I didn't want the push-pins either, so I bought the LGA775 bolt-thru kit from Sidewinder computers. I used a small screwdriver to removed the push-pins intact and then screwed the Xigmatek to my board. I am still experimenting with voltages, but so far, here is where I am at (all temps given by RealTemp 2.41):

Idle: 35 C
Load: 60 C
Vcore: 1.36 V (from CPUZ)
Thermal Compound: AS5

Specs are in my signature. I am running Orthos with the above config now to verify stability. I was having voltage issues but enabled Loadline calibration to see if it gave me added stability. Prior to enabling that, my best Orthos run was a little over 20 hours before erroring out. I should know tonight if the new setting worked.

what about the Thermalright Ultra 120?????

I just ordered one but haven't got it yet to test... but I heard it was the best aircooler...

I went with the Xigmatek HDT-S1283 over the AC Freezer 7 because the reviews seemed better a few months ago and there wasnt a large price difference.

I just ordered my bolt-thru-kit, gonna order the xigmatek next.

It also depends on the oc. I am running mine @ 3.6 w/ AC Freezer 7 and max at 51C according to real temp(after 24 hours of P95)

Xig's 1283 pimpsmacks the Freezer imo, it's like a 600G TRUE that costs $37(free shipping right now @ the EGG). I can't give my temps right now cuze new rig isn't built but normally the 1283 cools the E8400 @ 3.5-3.6ghz with stock voltage down to 20-25C idle and 35-45C load. :D
