I was wondering what the best 939 SFF out there is. I know shuttle has a good reputation but I just wanted to examine all my options before I chose one. I need it to fit 2 harddrives and at least 1 optical drive, as well as a 6800 GT. I'm moving my system from a huge CM stacker into a small case for ease of movement and to save some space, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
 
I'd also need a good CPU heatsink and GPU (6800 GT) heatskink recommendation that would fit inside the case as I'm currently watercooled and don't plan on watercooling my SFF. Thanks.
 
well all shuttles fit 2 hdds, 1 op[tical drive, and have ample room for a 6800gt, except for the ones with cardreaders. as for heatsink in a shuttle, you dont need one because it comes with the ICE, which works pretty well from my experience. im not positive that any aftermarket heatsinks even fit in there, well im sure they do but its probably not a good idea.
 
You can also consider moving into larger SFF such as Falcon Northwest's Fragbox and Antec Aria.
 
I own SN95G5 and I can warmly recomend it. I run HDD, DVD RW and 6800GT in it and it will OC to. It has nForce3 250 Ultra chipset.
It's best avaible 939 socket Shuttle at this moment. Though pretty soon Shuttle is lounching SN25P. It's in P series chassis (much cooler, 350 watt PSU, up to 3 HDD's, etc etc) and it has nForce4 chipset. It has PCI e.
It will cost bit more then SN95G5 but it has poential to be better.
For Me if SFF then Shuttle only.
My expiriance is that I was newer satisfyed with micro ATX mainboards. There where mostly made as economical versions and not preofrmers. Thats reason I doo not like Aria and Fragbox and other SFFs with ATX support. Shuttle incorporates ICE cooling and is smaller. It's made of aluminum and it has good PSU. Even if it seams scary to run MY setup with "only" 240 watt PSU it's Shuttle PSU hence it works even when OC-ed.
Shuttle mainboards are designed to preform good not to cost less. That's why Shuttle are my choice.
Other solutions in SFF world can be cheeper but they are mostly slower then shuttle versions with same chipset.

So ICE is an entire heatsink replacement? Under my TDX waterblock all I have is the bare processor, so I need to make sure I don't need to buy any cooling equipment in addition to the ICE in the shuttle. Also, I need a new heatsink for my 6800 GT because I wasn't satisfited with the stock cooling but now I'll need to worry about space.

Also my specs are; 3500+, 2x 512 stick of Corsair's 3200XL Pro, 10k 74gb raptor, and a 160gb storage SATA drive. Does the PSU generate enough power for these components?

I'd consider falcon northwest but I'm going to buy a laptop for school soon so I don't really want to buy another system. Plus I have great components in my PC now so I see no reason to buy a brand new computer.

Finally, when is the 939 coming out in the P-series? I'd consider switching to a PCI-e graphics card if the performance in Shuttle's new system would be worth it.

Agreed, I just built this with a 3200 Winchester 1 gig of corsair 2-2-2 Memory Runs great super quiet.. looks very sleek.. ;)

SN25P is 939 nForce4 and it's just about to be lounched.
P chassis are great. PSU is great and Cooling is amaizing.

Though I'm happy with My SN95G5 :)

ICE= Integrated Cooling Engine. It's 4 Heatpipe design HSF. It has like CPU block/hsf on CPU and 4 heatpipes rising heat into a radiator with 80 or 92 mili fan. Lots of cooling power packed in niceformat. ICE also exhaust air out of case hence it cools whole case.
With shuttle You doo not need anything else to cool Your CPU.
If You by G chassis (SN95G5) and want to mod it read My post about cooling G chassis.

i second taken a look at the sn25

3 harddrives 2 possible locations for cd drives.... this one looks to be great it also has pci-e just have to wait for the new to wear off and price to drop


 
Only problem is I'm not sure if I want to shell out for a PCI-e card of equal or better power as my 6800 GT. Can anyone recommend a good HSF for the 6800 cards?

Im using Arctic Cooling 5 for my 6800GT. Awesome cooler

Great. Now I just need to figure out if I'm going to wait for the new shuttle or not. The specs look awesome but I don't know if I'm ready to drop 400 on the shuttle and another 400 on a new graphics card.

Those won't fit into a G series...the AGP slot faces outward...

But in the P series the PCIe slot faces inward so a double slot vid card will fit...

Also with extemely novice dremeling i fit a vantec aeroflow in my sn45gv2...runs @ 10%...nice, cool and quiet.
 
The performance of the sn25p is on par or lower than the sn95g5 right now, hopefully some bios fixes and maybe a new revision will solve some of the initial problems with it. The G series PSU will handle all of your current components just fine, probably a modest overclock too. The cooling of the P chassis is about the same as that of the G chassis, just different.

Also, unless you have something planned for the watercooling equipment, it isn't all that hard to fit watercooling into a shuttle. You might have to get a new gpu waterblock though, cause I doubt you have one thin enough.
 
I just don't feel like dealing with watercooling anymore. I'm not much of an overclocker, dunno why I decided to shell out a ton of money on a system. I guess I just wanted to play. Right now I'm either thinking of selling off my watercooling or keep it for future use. We'll see.

The thing I like about the SN25P is despite it being a SFF its beefy in space. Its also pretty cool looking. I'm just excited to start this project, so I may get the sn95g5 but I need to give the P a chance if its coming out very soon.

BTW, does the P have 1 or 2 5.25 external bays?

Only 1, the rest are for 3.5 HDD bays.
 
you could probably mod it to accept two 5 1/2" bays. The space where it looks like there is a second is actually an external 3.5" bay for a floppy or something. Modifying it would require cutting up the faceplate, losing some front connections (they also have some usb and firewire ports in that 3.5" bay on the sides) , and also an entirely new drive cage assembly.

If you really wanted to I am sure it could be done, never seen anyone actually attempt it though...you can be the guinea pig!!!
 
It does look possible but I'm trying to keep the modding to the minimum (if any at all) on this thing. I just need my PC to be portable and look cool at the same time. I have a DVD drive and a DVD+/-RW to burn DVDs, well actually in the event that I would want to but I never have, so I could get by with just the RW drive. Then get a nice toy for the 3.5 bay... because floppy drives suck. :D
 
no it has TWO 5.25 bays and 3 hard drive slots.... plus u don't have to lose the card reader to get the 3 harddrives it has sata raid too...

i think the cooling is better then my sn85 g series.... but then again i don't have a p in front of me

i want a sn25... but i understand the money thing

i prob wait till summer to get if i do...

edit: i stand corrected.... i took the 3.5 bay for a second 5.25 one darn.. i was all hyped it had 2 in that thing

It does? The pic/specs say there is only one 5.25" bay.

Are there any coolers aside from the OEM one that would fit the G series?

a probably better bet would be to just get the mesh cover so the video card will have air to breathe..
