Just won $500 at the casino so I'm thinking about picking up 2 to replace my 2 6950 unlocked. What's the best cards out there right now? And how much faster is two 7970 vs two 6950?

Best one is probably the Gigabyte 7970 or the Asus DirectCU one.

i believe a heavily OC'ed (single) 7970 is a little bit slower or on par with a 6990 depending on the game.

i guess it would be safe to assume a xfire 6950's would be a little bit slower across the board compared to a OC'ed (single) 7970. the biggest benefit is the reduced power draw, cooler and no xfire issues to worry about.

Just grab 2 reference gigabyte/MSI/Asus 7970s as those have the warrenty through the serial number so it will be easier to resell them in the future. ALl reference will perform the same as there the same cards. Water cooling also easier to do as the water blocks are for reference design cards.

Stay away from the sapphire cards since overclocking voids the warrenty with them.. (not that i know how they would know).

at this point I would say anything reference, i disagree with the sapphire comment however. Never had an issue with their rma department and they do nothing different than anyone else when it pertains to overclocking and coolers. When I rma I just make sure everything is where it needs to be and thats it. I had always removed the coolers and applied different TIM and never an issue.

Just repeating what others have quoted from there warrenty policy.

I hear ya I have seen some noobs have issues.
I'll tell ya my experiences though with 2 cards that I bought used, I had the quickest turn around time than any other brand and I got an upgrade, all they require is invoice. One of them was totally my fault too... The trick is communication and to get on the phone. Get on the phone and start the rma process. Look at your tracking when it arrives there GET ON THE PHONE.

Be polite and they always faster for you if they know your "around"
