Best $50 Video Card

You probably won't find a 2600XT for $50, but you probably can find a 7600GT open box for $50. If you could step your price up to $100 you could probably pick up a nice x1900 or x1950.

I had been looking a whole lot yesterday for a build I am doing and wasn't able to find a good card for $50. I ended up buying a XFX 8400 GS from Zipzoomfly for $50 - $20MIR = $30. It is not a card for gaming, but it looks like a decision based on lack of options. Let's see what this baby can do with a 80mm fan on it :p. XFX 8400 GS

What types of games is he playing? For $50, you definitely can't buy much... Maybe an X1650Pro or something along those lines for ~$70.

7600gt would do him a world of difference. Better purchase than the 2600XT for sure :D

Too bad you didn't ask this a couple of days ago. outpost.com had the evga 7600gt for $50 after rebate.

Ah damn. Ok, what's the best Canadian computer site? Nice return policy etc. Thanks to everyone for all the help, you guys rock.

uh yeah the x1950 pro should be minumum. heres a nice chart.

with 4xaa 8x af from amdzone

And what graphic settings were they running that at? I would consider 42 FPS to be pretty damn decent for last years mainstream card to be getting with 4xAA.

Uh sorry 96, he ended up going with the 8600gt because it fit the bill. He gets it tomorrow.

Thanks again for all the help! I'll let yall know how it goes.

DEFINITELY do not do the 8600 series cards!!!!

i'd like to hear the rational behind this. The G84 is a perfectly respectable core and the 8600GT is a perfectly respectable SKU.

and as for the best Canadian e-tailer, NCIX takes it hands down, but alinx is a little family owned store I used to work for, and their work ethic is impeccable, give em a call if one of the prices look funky, and they'll get an updated price for you. Generally not the best for high end video cards but, mobos procs... anyways enough advertising.

www.pccanada.com is a good one. Bigfootcomputers went under :(. www.atic.ca is a good one.

There is of course www.tigerdirect.ca, but dealing with them, in any aspect, is not fun.

Well he got it, and I didnt even think about this but it won't fit into his case. He has a dell and it's an itty bitty case. He's sending it back in exchange for a smaller form factor card. Back to the drawing board, any suggestions?

That's..... weird. I thought that was a rather small card to begin with.....

Have a picture of the case? Or is it a slim one?

Go on craigs list you'll find drit cheap cards used like for example like a year ago i found a 7800gtx for only 70 which was an insane deal ppl sometimes wanna upgrade and just ened cash

5 bucks its one of the half hight Dells your SOL for any real card i think
time for a new PC

Id play with the side of the case off and fabricate some sort of new mount before id live with integrated graphics.
As for why the 8600 is shit, its because its barely more powerful than the 7600gt. The only new thing its brings to the table is DX10 support BUT its not powerful enough to actually make use of it. So its more money for not much more card. Like buying a special honda civic with a goose neck trailer hitch... Paying extra for something you don't have enough power to use lol.

Hey man I remrembered that eVGA 7600GT 256MB PCI Express is on sale for $56 in Fry's .

Haha, I have the same integrated graphics card, 6150 LE right?
It is a POS, plays BF2 on all low settings, and I found a similar card to it (actually a littler higher up ) and it was only $20. lol
I have an HP media center and I am looking to upgrade to an 8800GT at christmas when the price drops below $200. Will I need a new PSU?

its going to hit 300 by blackfriday youll be lucky to find one by the end of Jan

When the 256 8800GT comes out it's supposed to cost ~200.... :D That being said for best video card around $50 7600 GT, or old school X850 XT - My personal choice. (But you have to pick it up off of eBay or used somewhere, it gives insane performance for it's price!)

i wouldnt even bother with a high end card with out atlest 512MB of ram now
even midrange cards too
now that games use ass ton of vram just for textures

It is that exact card. :) And you are precisely correct on the Dell slim case. It doesn't fit width wise - working on procuring pics.

No, I think the stock 8800GT 512 is supposed to MSRP from 200-250, which I interpret as stock is 200 and OC models are -> 250

The 256mb version is supposed to be below 200.

Ok here's the case, any ideas on a case mod? He's fairly new to computers so keep that in mind. (I'm a 1000 miles away or I'd do it for him.)

oh, nevermind

best thing to do is put it all in a new case if possible, then he can use standard size parts, otherwise start saving to build a new PC

He needs low profile cards. I believe the best is a 8600 GT made by MSI, but no one sells it to my knowledge. Check the thread about the HP slim case in the SFF subforums.

take the bracket off the card and run with the case off for now it wont look pretty but it will work
