I need a new drive but I am not up to speed.
My primary boot disk is a 300GB Velociraptor. Most of my games library will be on this disk because even when full, I am assuming game load performance will be faster than any 7200 RPM drive. The random access times are surely better across the drive because I tested.
I have a 1TB Caviar Black drive for media. I like it because it is fast, it has lasted for several years (4) but now it is too small. I want to go to something 3TB or larger and pull the one TB out of the system to avoid the noise and heat of having three drives.
Some of my games may end up on this new drive and I will also use it to load 192khz audio files into memory for playback so the drive needs to be swift. But this isn't the primary boot or game drive, although I would like to load some less played games on it without taking too mich of a performance hit. However, as important is long term reliability. I want a drive that will last, enterprise grade.
Is there a 3 TB equivalent of my Caviar Black. I know the Caviar Red Drive is cheap but I think it might be too slow.
What is the best performing, reliable drive out there right now? My case is a Silverstone FT-1 with fans blowing right over the drive.
RAID 0 is not an option. Thanks.
