I am waiting on shipment for my second GTX 970. The plan is to do either 2.5 or 4k Gaming with Two GTX 970's in SLi. The U28D590D seems decent even for being a TN Panel. is there something else to consider?

ASUS ROG Swift is the best 27" gaming monitor out there for anyone running NVidia, and also since you seem open to TN. At least until other good G-Sync alternatives come out to rival it.

As a guy who owns both two 970s and a Samsung 590D, I can say from experience that this isn't the best combo to go with. First off, the 970 has the whole 3.5+0.5 vram issue which actually hasn't affected most games I've played at 4k resolution, BUT some newer titles that are starting to use more and more vram have definitely shown some issues so theres that. As for the monitor, I came from a glossy korean 1440p monitor so the biggest difference for me is the super grainy AG coating on the Samsung which I am not liking at all compared to glossy. There's also the issue of input lag on the Samsung being on the high side for a monitor so for competitive play it's a no go, casual games the input lag is useable for the most part. My advice would be to stick to 2560 resolution since two 970s is not a good solution for 4k. For a monitor, if money is no issue then check out the Acer XB270HU 1440p IPS monitor with G Sync for your 970s, very low input lag, 144hz refresh rate, and non grainy AG coating.

MistaSparkul, Thanks for your input, even though the 970's have that shitty 3.5GB thing going on. They will eventually be replaced when something better is available, however a monitor is a longer term commitment, so even if I can't get the most out of a 4k monitor because of the 970 limitations, I would rather have a better monitor than run less monitor to make the 970's work.

I would be open to a 2560 only if its better than any 4k on the market for whatever reason. But the truth is I have never gamed pass 1080p so im not sure what to expect anyway.

Well currently the main thing that makes the Acer 2560 better than any 4k right now would be that the Acer has a 144hz refresh rate instead of 60hz. As for G Sync there is a 4k g sync monitor out also from Acer and it has a TN panel which you've stated that you have no issues with, the XB280HK. If you don't care so much for g sync you can always get the none g sync version which is B286HK. It has a better stand than the Samsung and probably better input lag numbers as the Samsung is already high to begin with. I can't comment on the AG coatings on these though since I've never seen either of them in person.

Ive been reading and now really torn between a 4k but limited to 60hz screen or a 2560 120/144hz screen!!!

I would say go for a 1440p 144hz monitor now and use it for years to come and by the time you are looking to upgrade later down the line we will have two things:

1. Monitors with DP 1.3 meaning 4k @ 120hz/144hz
2. GPUs that are actually powerful enough to push that resolution at that frame rate

MistaSparkul. it seems all the G-Sync monitors are TN panel. I think I want IPS now. so should I just ignore g-sync and get an IPS 1440p? or is it critical for FPS Gaming?

The XB270HU uses a 1440p IPS panel at 144 hz, but you'll have to wait a month or two. But, yeah, I would wait it out if I were you.
