I am planning to run dual and I am looking for an IPS panel. I currently have a TN ( Asus 246H) and it is alright, but I figure I might upgrade to get better resolutions and IPS panels. I was looking at the Samsung SyncMaster 2443BWT if that is any good. That can be had for under $300, but are there any other suggestions or something I'm missing?

You can't get a 1920x1200 IPS for under $300. The 2443BWT is a TN.

With your budget you could get the NEC EA231wmi which is an IPS but it's only 1920x1080.
If pixels are more important than color and viewing angles I'd considder the 2343BWX (heck, you could probably snag two for $300)

Get the NEC EA231wmi. I received mine on Friday. It is an amazing monitor and I do not say this lightly. I have tested this monitor every which way and it passes in a stellar fashion. It is a bit out of your budget currently but it does come below $300 occasionaly. Check the NEC EA231wmi discussion.

There are a lot of positive reviews for this monitor I can add my voice to that group.

Whatever you do (ATM at least until Dell fixes their QC) stay away from the Dell U2410.
What a craptacular example of a monitor. So much potential......
Wasted....Sigh....:confused::eek::(

I bought an Asus VW246H and I'm loving it. You can currently buy it from TigerDirect for $229.00 shipped to California. In addition you can get $29.44 cash back from Bing. Sub $200 for this monitor is nice. I don't mind it being 1080 vertical either since I upgraded from a 19" monitor. What is your reasoning from wanting to upgrade to the same size? Just 1200 resolution? Like mentioned, you probably will not find it for under $300.

That NEC EA231wmi looks like a pretty good panel, but I have another question. I currently have an Asus VW246H and it is 1920x1080, so would upgrading to a IPS panel benefit me being the same resolution or should I just get a second one of what I have?

Ok, so after reading, I think the NEC EA231WMi is the best IPS I can get that is even close to $300. Would it be beneficial to wait until after CES to see if they unveil anything new for cheaper or does anyone know if there are any in the works already. i was planning on getting two of these, so i don't want to be wrong. thanks.

Absolutely agree with HowzThat. I just got my NEC IPS panel after spending about a month reading through all these threads. The monitor is really great. Nothing comes close to it in this price range.

I just got mine delivered yesterday... I work on a computer all day but still ended up staying up all night using it. You can find it under $300 shipped, just froogle it. Got mine from buy.com friday night at 12 am on a whim when I found out they dropped it to $288 free shipping plus 10% back using Amazon payphrase as well as 4% back from Bing. So all in all $250 shipped. I'm not complaining

Ya but would it be smart to wait for CES to see what is going to come out. I am going to get tow of these and I dont want to be out of date already a month after I purchased $700 worth of monitors.

No need to wait for CES. :)

NEC have already announced a new range of monitors is on the way. If you can wait maybe 3-6 months? then surely there will be something in the $300 price range.
I know they are releasing more 23" in a variety of flavours (some premium some not).

Someone on these forums posted a supposedly leaked? NEC document that showed off all their new range of monitors for 2010. Not so long ago. Its probably still around and worth a look.

EDIT: Found it! Information here http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1473878. But it seems NEC Germany have taken the PDF file off their site! Too many prying eyes and its top secret! No worries. I think I saved the file to my desktop at work. Will provide new link forthwith.:)

There might be better panels coming out but they won't be cheaper than the NEC EA231wmi. That's because NEC's new line of professional monitors is going to be priced higher for being pro grade. The new 120hz montiors from acer, etc. That are coming out are all TNs and they looke to be priced $from 400-500. So they will be faster for FPS but they are still TN tech, so thats paying more for less image quality but faster refresh rates.

I see. Well, since I don't do much gaming, I would say I am looking more for image quality. All I want is to get the best monitor I can get for the price range of about $300-400. I will be getting duals, so I don't want something to come out in a month and make these things outdated. If you guys know of any monitors (not TN) coming out within 6 months worth waiting for, then I might reconsider.

No no that's why you need to have a look at the NEC PDF file. Probably the reason NEC was so keen to take it off their site.

It mentions a whole new range of monitors, (not just the professional series) that is set to replace the current product line in 2010. The document is focused on the PA range and its benefits but also mentions other lower end offerings for the new year.

NEC have officially announced the PA professional series so it is now common knowledge.
But the other lines mentioned in the PDF have NOT been officially annouced.

That's why when I return to work I will try to provide a new link for it (fingers crossed I did save it to my desktop)

Hey if you can provide some linkage to pdfs of the other lines coming out that would be quite nice. I've only heard about the NEC PA series as being confirmed and ALL having IPS panels. Right now the only midrange/consumer offering from NEC with e-ips is the ea231wmi, the rest of the EA series including the 24" one are TNs.

Yup...it also mentions new E-IPS screens from memory in a variety of sizes.

All non-confirmed mind you so NEC might be having second thoughts (they took the PDf off their site so they obviously want to keep this under wraps).

PA range confirmed....will be real embarassing for a certain someone if he can't locate the PDF file come Monday. ;)

Sorry for double post....but it is looking like new NEC office/corporate line up will be all 16:9...Make of that what you will..

BUT.... professional line PA 241 24" and PA 301W 30" will be 16:10...:)

So there's basically no cheap 16:10 24 inch IPS monitors anymore?
How much are the cheapest ones?

That would be the Dell U2410. And with tax and such your looking at about $550+

I tried the Samsungs, but in the end, for a good & super fast TN panel, the Asus vw246h hit the spot. You could get the 266h for under $300 as well. Its no CRT, but its the fastest panel I have seen.

2343bwx should be considered. I use 2408wfp before but i seriously think 2343bwx is better beast. For price and performance and look, it cannot beat this(should be able to get this well less than $200)
