thinkin of taking the plunge and buying my first LCD (hold me i'm scaird!). a 22" looks like a great size to me. i've got 2 7900 GTO's in SLI to drive it so shouldn't have any trouble on the computer end.

so whats the better one? cost isn't a big issue since i'm getting a real fatass tax return this year.

i was looking at the samsung 226BW, but people here seem to have touble with it. what about the LG 226WT with its nice big thread here?

imporant things to me: good colour range, good contrast ratio, good refresh rate and a good viewing angle. the wife just got a samsung 931BW and it wasn't bad....only complaint is that i notice the bottom of the screen looks a little washed out, especially on the desktop.

any thoughts? its primarily for web browsing and gaming, but i've been known to do some CAD design, movie watching, even a touch of photo editing when needed. i like to print all my own, got a decent 6 ink epson photo printer and we all know that adjustments are necessary from time to time.

I suggest the Dell E228WFP, however there's some calibration that needs to be done to the monitor, if you don't want to deal with that I say get the samsung 226 they've got great monitors.

I bought my dell for 280 and the samsung was 300 and that's why I didn't get the samsung, and besides this is my first LCD monitor so I wasn't really worried about it.

I have the Viewsonic VX2235WM and really like it. The only negative I hear about it is the bezel. I don't mind it and the room I have it in is fairly dark so I don't really notice the bezel. Maybe I'm too busy looking at the pretty picture to notice the frame.
I'm not sure but aren't all 22" ws lcds using the same panel?

Not any more, for a fair while yes, but I believe there are a few panels now.

Yeah, I'm gonna get the dell in late march, will post pics when I do.

i could be wrong, but that viewsonic doesn't seem to compare to the samsung 226BW....but then i'm a dunce with LCD's

Can you post what kind of calibration you did?

I had to change a crapload of settings and I'm still not done.

I went to nVIDIA Control Panel and I had to do the monitor calibration utility but it didn't work because the contrast needed to be set too low and I hate when brightness & contrast are low, so the colors need to be changed because the grays are pink so there's too much red but if I don't get the correct mix then it's an off white (greenish, blueish).

I have the Samsung 226BW and love it. Great colors, no ghosting, very good blacks with no backlight bleed... and it's priced well at $379 or cheaper.

Make sure you get an "S" panel though. When they first came out, they were "S" panels, and I've heard the newer ones are "A" panels and not as good.
If you dig through the display forum, you'll find info about the S vs. A.
