Hi guys,

I'm upgrading my rig, here are the current specs:

AMD Phenom II 955 BE (stock HSF)

XFX Radeon HD 5770 850MHZ 1GB 4.8GHZ

G.SKILL F3-10666CL9D-4GBNQ PC3-10666 4GB 2X2GB DDR3-1333 CL9-9-9-24

Gigabyte GA-770TA-UD3 AMD770 ATX AM3 DDR3 1PCI-E 4PCI RAID HD Sound GBLAN SATA3 USB3.0 Motherboar

I'm getting the Coolermaster N520 to OC the 955 to 4.0 Ghz, and am torn between getting an HD7950 that's currently on sale and waiting for an R9 270X. The HD7950 I'm looking at is here:

Please let me know your suggestions.

Thanks

Thanks, I'm inclined to agree. Where did you see it for 169? Best I can find is 189 after rebate on Newegg.

Thanks

R9 270X is a HD 7870 with slightly higher clocks. get the sapphire HD 7950 you picked. :) 30 - 35% faster than HD 7870 at same clocks. unlocked voltage. on average overclocks to 1100 - 1150 mhz with voltage tweaking. 3GB VRAM. its a no brainer.

Awesome, thank you. Do you think it's worth upgrading to 8gb of ram?

Your only running 4GB at this time, I would suggest upping your ram to 8GB, you may not notice a huge performance right off the bat, but as you have more applications open and run higher end programs, you than notice the difference.

Mate, just remember that the 270x is a 7870. The 7950 is a.. wait for it.. a 7950. If the 270x was $200 and the 7950 was $250 I wouldn't have second thoughts before advising you to get the 7950. If the 7950 is the same price as the 270x then you'd be nuts to buy the 270x. With the 7950 you get a much faster card and free games for the same price. Do the right thing.

When I got my 7870 they were about $220 and 7950s were $300+. That is a true reflection of how they should be priced compared to a 7870(270x.) If I could buy 7950s for $200 I would have at least two of them in my case right now. Unfortunately in my country retailers are not being so generous. You won't see a better price on a gpu relative to every other gpu that is in the market for quite a while.
