Hey guys!

I'm having tough time deciding on the LCDs..Here are the LCDs Im looking at

SAMSUNG 205BW - $295 shipped
LG L204WT - $350 shipped
VIEWSONIC VX2025WM - $330 shipped
DELL 2007WFP - $413 shipped

I wouldn't mind going to dell, if its really worth it. well, the things Im going to do with the LCD"
1. Doing my masters, so will be reading/writing research papers a lot
2. Programming and Web designing
3. Movies (i want the black to be black) :)

what would you guys suggest?

I had the Samsung 205BW and LG L204WT on my desk and returned the LG. The LG is still a decent monitor, but I found the Samsung to have a little cleaner/smoother image with slightly more accurate colours, tho the LG did have a slight edge in contrast. Both displays had about the same amount of backlight bleeding at the top/bottom, tho it wasn't offensive IMO and I have yet to see an LCD with no bleeding. In addition to the above benefits of the Samsung it also has a height adjustable display and the menu buttons are on the front, not tucked around back and, in your case, the Samsung is cheaper.

I think i'm staying with the Samsung for now. I'd like to try out the Dell but i'd lose a fair amount of $$$ should I have to return it (return shipping + a possible 15% restocking fee).

I've heard good and bad things about the ViewSonic. The panel itself is decent but a lot of people have not liked the coating - tends to "sparkle". There have been reports of DVI issues but I can't really speak to that in detail. Generally, i've been pleased with ViewSonic's. We've been buying ViewSonic's LCD for three years at work and only a handful have exhibited issues (connected via VGA tho) and were promptly replaced by ViewSonic.
