best 2.1's out there for computer?

had klipsch promedia 2.1's since 2001 and sub finally went. can't complain as 8 years and like 4-5 computers/sound cards later i got my $199 worth.

they are now $149 and went to best buy as i had a $100 gift card and the pair i recieved emit a very faint hum that can be heard wether computer is on or off (something they have you check in the Klipsck FAQ). not really wanting to go thru what many have had to do with klipsch speakers so looking for a potential replacement.

i listen to music and use the great music making apps included with asus xonard2x sound card included in my puget sytems computer,

any suggestions here for 2.1's that will work with my sound card? honestly i have no problem spending more cash my cutoff point is about $400.

i have the klipskc 4.1's which were also great sounding but suffer from same issues as 2.1's
 
Honestly, I haven't heard a dedicated computer set that sounds better than the Pro Media 2.1s. I would try exchanging them for another set first. If you still have issues then the only way to go is with an external amp setup and get some good speakers and a small sub.
 
ever think of picking up a stereo receiver and nice set of bookshelfs? i bet you could go that route and still be under 400 dollars, and have a system that will blow away any speaker set made for computer audio. dont know if you could squeeze in a decent sub for under 400 though. its possible.

I was thinking of this as well. I bet the market is flooded with people selling used, stereo recievers which have been replaced by multi channel units. Pick up a good quality used reciever, some decent speakers and you've got something better than the vast majority of dedicated computer speakers.
 
thanx folks i may just go that route...the klipsck promedia was/is a hard package to beat but there issues are too much to overcome at times.....
