I'm looking for a speaker set for music/gaming that's not logitech or creative (unless they made godly speakers) with a bass control on the speaker; treble control would be nice too (unless they're godly speakers without those controls). haha. Thanks.

What does everyone think of these (ALTEC LANSING VS4221 35 Watts 2.1 Speakers):

Well I went with the ALTEC LANSING VS4221 and I think I made a mistake. I can not get the treble to sound right, people's voices sound strange like either they have a sore throat or like they're out of air.

In another post someone says play with the EQ, but should I just return them and go for the Logitech Z-4?

I had a Logitech Z-4, luckily I was able to sell it for more than I paid for it. I'm not a fan of "computer" speakers anymore. Without going with a receiver and passives, your best bet would be a Swan M10 or d1080mkII.

If your budget is set at exactly $100, you could try picking up a refurbished Z-2300 on ebay, which should serve you better than the Z-4's.

I wouldn't recommend any 2.1 set that costs <$100. There aren't any good ones. Your best option in the entry level is to geta 2.0 active speaker set and add a subwoofer later.
M-Audio AV40's $120 at provantage.
Google the BIC-100 sub.

Never heard them, but I saw these the other day while browsing online.

^^^ While your best bet for great sound is a receiver and some bookshelves (or better), with your $100 budget those are a great buy. You won't find much better for sub $100 (granted $99 is pushing it, but hey ;) )

Another I agree with, though they are over $100. That said, if you can bring yourself to spend the TINY bit more ($109) then the M10s: http://www.theaudioinsider.com/product_info.php/p/swan-m10/products_id/89 will make you even happier ;)

On your desk

I'm worried to buy these Swans. I read a review that said if you're not 4 feet near the subwoofer, you won't hear bass. I'd really like to be in other parts of my room without being near the bass when listening to music.

Then get the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 system. You'd probably have to buy used to get them for under $100 but it's possible (in fact someone here had a set listed for $90 in the FS forum) and you won't have to remain within 4 feet of the sub to hear the bass.

There is a subwoofer control on the control pod as well. Very very good system for around the $100 price point IMO.

Can try another logitech system. The logitech z-2300. You should be able to get it on Ebay refurbished for 75-85 bucks. Good deal for a 2.1

I could spend $150 on the klipsh promedia 2.1 if they're really that good. Why only a bass knob though? Hehe.
