I've looked at the MyBook Home and Studio edition externals and have read mixed reviews about both, with a few DOA issues according to newegg.com reviews.

I'm planning to use 1394a or esata (would need adapter for laptop) so if you guys have any other recommendations it must have at least FW400. Thanks for the help guys

Best 1TB External?

With that kinda investment ( monetarily and data wise), I would only recommened the best. I don't have one, and I've never even seen one, but do yourself a favor, and get one of these. I've purchased numerous items from CoolDrives, and haven't been disappointed with the quality.

You got 1TB you wanna store, you'd better do it right. ;)

Good Luck!

PS. Just add any drive your little heart desires.

not the Hitachi. I had 3, all either turned themselves off after 2-3 hours, or usb disconnected every 20-30 minutes.

I'm really liking that one in your link..but 110 for an enclosure is pushing it

I totally agree w/ DogChain, I've gone through a couple of the Hitachi's and I currently still have 2 of them (I got them for a good deal @ BB), they do have that annoying issue of turning themselves off....it's a PITA

you're talking about the externals right? most of the reviews had good things to say about the hitachi 1tb internal drives, even though they're using 5 platters (i think)

well although the OP was asking about the 1TB, I've had 2 500GB and both died w/ in a month (POS, lost a lot of my music & pictures since I used it for back up before I could burn onto DVD's) and they were replaced under the warranty...

as Dog was saying, the 1TB one's have a tendency to some how shut themselves off, even though they are physically still on (ie. the light is still on, but the drive itself does not show up in "my computer"

i see..maybe i should go back to looking at the WD's 1TB although its a bit slower (albeit cooler) than the other 1TB drives out there, and with half the cache
