What do you think the best 19" regular (not widescreen) LCD monitor is for me? My budget is around $300. I can go up a little if needed.
I will be using it mainly for internet, after that will be some light photoshop and occasional gaming.
The monitor will be used with the computer is my signature.

Thanks for reading!

*bump*
Sorry to be a bother but I am going to be driving about a hour in the morning (wow, it is morning) to go monitor hunting and I would really appreciate some advice.

The best 19" are twice your budget or more like Lacie 319, NEC 1990Sxi, NEC 1990FX. All S-IPS photo quality monitors.

Within that budget resistriction check out Samsung 971P for all around use. NEC 90GX2 for gaming..also has a glossy high-contrast coating which I think makes look better than most 19" out there other than S-IPS tech displays.. YMMV because some hate glare..

What kind of panel does the NEC 90GX2 have? I know the Samsung 971P has a PVA.

I don't know what YMMV means, but does it have an anti-glare coating or not? There's a lot of light where it would be used.

Samsung all the way.

The make the best panels and are a decent price. Also awesome color/performance.

I have a dual 940b setup and love it. Great color reproduction (i do a lot of photo work as a hobby) and great for games.

Honesly I think widescreen is overrated. It is harder to work on (for me) and seems much smaller than a regular 19".

I have the NEC 90GX2. I love it. But wouldn't recommend if you..
a. cannot block the light source behind you.
b. spend more time reading, or working with it. I prefer my cheapo non-glare 19 Dell at work for that.
If you game, and generally at night/dark room, it's great. The colors just pop with whatever that coating is.
Good luck on your search.

Thanks for the advice! What do you think about the Samsung 971P that tightline recommended? It is a SPVA panel as opposed to the 940b that you have which is a TN panel I believe.

I cannot block the light and I do spend a lot of time reading. Thanks for letting me know!

I searched for Samsung 971P on newegg.com and all they had was the Samsung 971P-BK.

Is it the same thing?

vx922...

2ms response time...

Zero ghosting.

I had a viewsonic with 12ms response time, and the ghosting pissed me off so much I returned it 2 hours after I bought it... switched back to my sony trinitron 17"... then when I read about the VX922 I went out and bought that... (The Viewsonic I had before was an $800 21" at the time...) VX922 was $450-500 I think...

It's come down to like $250-275... and it's perfect for games imo. No dead pixels, no problems, I have my xbox 360 plugged into the VGA and the DVI to my computer, press a button and I got xbox 360 at 1280 x 1024 at my desk :p :)

Thanks for the advice but I am only going to be gaming occasionaly. I want to use this computer for light photo editing too and the VX922 has a TN panel. Since I've read many things that say TN is great for gaming but not for image editing, I think I'm going to go with a VA or IPS panel.
Thanks for the input though!

Yes BK just means black. You'll be really happy with this monitor I think sicne it reviews everywhere really well. And YMMV means your milage may very. Meaning the glossy screen may or may not bother you from the NEC 19" I talked about earlier. An optic filter like opticlear the only way to make a TN look decent though so since it's fastest I think it's worth a look..
