That would be good for gaming, pretty nice price too.The viewing angles suck, but unless your doing anything other then sitting right in front of it gaming it should be ok.

I just bought a BenQ Fp937. Supposed to be a good monitor that doesn't cost $$$$$. It has 12ms response time and 500:1 contrast ratio. I'll report back when I set it up.

I hear the BenQ ones are pretty nice, but go to bensbargains and scroll down for the Dell deals on their 1905fp. I think you'll be happy with one, I own it and I like it.

but the dell one has a 20ms responce time... that still good for games? is it worth it? or is the slightly faster responce time of the benq better? whats the dell one got that the benq ones dont? and what does the $455 benq one have that the $350 benq doesnt?

I have the BenQ FP931 and have been very happy with it. Great for games and no dead or stuck pixels. The one and only issue I have with this LCD is the amount of backlight leakage from all four sides. BenQ agreed to RMA it after I sent them a picture of it.

Strangely enough tho, I was experimenting with the backlight leakage and found that after gently squeezing the front and the back of the frame together all around, the light leakage problem is now not as bad as it was at first.

I don’t know if this is just a fluke or what but now I’m not too sure if I want to go through the RMA process for fear of getting a potentially worse unit.

Narrow you choices down then research as much as possible if you have the time.

i kinda think my choices are either the fp937s or dell 1905fp after seeing the rebated price. its only $50 more to get the dell (a $600 moniter rebated $100) and dell is a well known brand. so why dont I get it? i dunno... i need som1 to tell me its better than the benq because it has this and that. thies lcds are quite expensive so its hard for me to make a choice. or maybe the benq is better because it has 8ms less responce time?
i dont do any graphics work, i just play games and watch movies.

If you're going to be watching movis you might want one with better viewing angles. With only 130 degree viewing angles, moving your head from side to side and up and down your screen will get really distorted.Mine has 178 degree angles so I can look at mine from anywhere and it looks fine, but expensive so I would look for one with atleast 160 degree angles and 170 would be even better.

The Benq monitor will have lest ghosting for games... so if games is your only concern, buy the Benq. However, it's a 6-bit TN+ panel (16.2 mil dithered colours), so the brightness/colour reproduction will not be as nice. The Dell, however (from what I remember... don't know 100% sure) is an IPS or a PVA panel, both of which will for sure ghost slightly more, but have far better colour reproduction and viewing angles. I guess it's where your priorities lie. You would be happy with both, especially if you're not a picky person.

What he said, mine has a 8-bit PVA panel and while it only has a 20ms response time and I see minimal ghosting in games but the color reproduction and the ability to watch DVD's from any angle and the 800:1 contrast ratio were well worth the trade off for me.It's all personal preference of course and if money is an issue you have to weight that into the equation also.

The FP937 actually has a 140 degree viewing angle now, which is much better. Only 20 degrees on each side is missing, and I am sure I will never need to look at it from that angle.

Also, on the topic of backlight leakage, I have been hearing a few stories about this problem. But it seems to be wide spread like dead pixels, not all monitors have it it's just a minor manufacturing defect that can happen on any monitor. Hopefully the FP937 is a bit better designed and has less chance to have either of those issues (dead pixels or backlight leakage).

They measure in some fucked up degrees, so whether it's 120, 140, or even 160, since it's a TN+film 6-bit panel, there will be issues with angle.

To put it into perspective... a PVA panel with 20ms response time will have a lot more ghosting than a TN panel with 20ms. Turn the tables around, and an IPS/VA panel with a 160 degree viewing angle will be viewed much easier and the colours will not shift as much than a TN panel with a "160 degree" viewing angle. The numbers from manufacturers are all relative. You have to look more at the panel itself and what it can do. For more information on which screen uses which panel, check out my post that i just re-bumped.

im not to picky, so the color quality probably wont bother me, and its not like I will be watching tv from across the room, just be right infront of it maybe leaning back im my chair a little. the dell is better a better quality moniter, but Im not doing graphics work, or jumping around my room while i watch movies. so i think the better responce time will outweigh the better color quality of the dell. ill go with the benq. =)

i will try to get it from Compsource Inc. I have never heard of them and thier site looks kinda lame but they have the highest rating. Whats the diffrence between a fp937 and fp937s? and why is it that not many places are selling the fp937?

... how much ghosting are we talking about with the dell? like runing around in UT2k4, fast action, jumping around shooting blowing stuff up... will it be so noticable that i will be like WTF! i hate this! ?

thx for helping me out.

S = silver on the model number. It's the same monitor... in fact, I think it only comes in silver, so you'll probably only see it listed with an S.

Well, to make things short. People generally don't notice ghosting on any LCD, unless we're talking above 16ms. Below that, it becomes harder and harder to notice it. But, rest assured, if you notice it on a 12 or 16ms panel, you'll notice it on a 2ms panel when they make them.

If you lean back in your chair, and you're no longer facing the TN+ (Benq) monitor right on, the colours will shift darker - I'm sure you know the effect I'm talking about. It would happen with any LCD, but moreso with the TN Panels. Again, if priority #1 on your list is gaming, you'll probably be happy with the Benq. Though if you play a lot of FPS games (especially on any competitive level) you'll want to stick with a CRT. Even the 8ms TN monitors can 'ghost'. Wait a week or so, and you'll see Benq's 8ms monitor more. Check their website for the model #. Out of all the monitors, that one will have the least ghosting in FPS games.

However, just to let you know. If you plan on doing a lot of other things (i.e. watching a lot of movies, working with photos), you will notice the dithering in the colours for sure on the TN+ panels. When you play dark movies, you'll see a kind of "twinkling" effect happening in the black areas of the screen, which is annoying. So think hard about what your priorities are.

Wow that wasn't short.

Just got my BenQ FP937S.

Very impressed. The color is 100% fine, I notice no difference over my old CRT, so it's good quality. Viewing angle is fine from what I can see and the games I've tried on it so far (MOHAA and Warcraft 3) have no ghosting what so ever unless I move much faster than would ever be necessary.

The only gripe I have is a single dead pixel about two inches above the windows clock. But It's only noticable on a white background. I'll get used to it, I just need to make a game out of it, like say hello to it every time I see it or something hahaha.

Good fun, best purchase I've made in a while for my computer.
I will provide more details if anyone needs them.

I was going to get that panel myself. The TN threw me off, as I'm not just concerned about games... but I think it's one of the best TN panels on the market. It's a quality screen.

I wanted IPS so my Dell 2005 is on the way... uh oh
