My 21" CRT just launched a few sparks out the back when i adjusted the power cable and is dead. Now i am looking to replace it with something a bit smaller and lighter.
I play a lot of computer games and worry about ghosting. Since i had a CRT befor, i never really had a problem. With that said, i am looking for a nice 19" LCD with as little ghosting as possible for under $700.

Any recomendations?

ag nuevo 19" rave reviews newegg.com

no 19" i know have < 25 response time but reviews are more helpful than that number.....make sure you get one with dvi

I wouldn't necessarily trust the reviews at newegg. Check what people are recommending here and elsewhere. I myself have not been able to find a really good review site for monitors, Toms Hardware has plenty of reviews, but its a terrible review site, and many other sites offer incomplete or flawed reviewing methods.

I bought an NEC 1980SX for image quality, not gaming, and its performed superbly. It's not a gaming display, that's for sure, and there are not a lot of very fast 19" LCDs, the 17/18 and 20 inch displays have more options in the 16ms range.

I've been playing UT2003 on my Envision 9110 for quite a while now with no ghosting. Got this when my Viewsonic 21" "dimmed out" on me..no disapointment at all.

Last I looked CC had it for $550 after rebate. I do use DVI, that does make a difference.

Try it, they do have a return policy

Emorphien, how is the 1980SX? I have been trying to find someone that owns one to comment on the image quality/colour accuracy/viewing angle etc? does it ghost badly or is it acceptable. I only play racing sims, so mild ghosting would be more than acceptable. Otherwise I do graphics work. Are there any dead pixels?

Would you able to post pictures, as I would really like to see what the display looks like while on.

Thanks

I know, its a tough monitor to find. I'm studing imaging sciences and whatnot, so my main interest is imaging technology and research of it... but I do a lot of photography and other color and tone sensitive things.

The 1980SX isn't bad, I like it better than the awful Apple displays I have to work on occaisionally (when both are calibrated I like the NEC better). Tones on it are pretty damn good, as are colors according to others who use it or have used mine, I'm very sensitive to grayscale issues since I have bad color vision.

As far as ghosting goes, its not great for games like UT, but I play BF:vietnam and Halo on it (mostly BF:V) without any problems.

The viewing angle is superb and mine has no dead or stuck pixels or any other troubles. It was a gift from my parents, they ordered it from Dell.

I'll try to get some pics up later for you.

The Samsung 193P is supposed to be pretty good, or so Toms Hardware says.... they just posted a review on the 26th of last month. Also they posted a couple of new ones today on the Samsung 172X and BenQ FP767-12.

The 193P got a

Which I would grade as exellent if I must say so. Most places which do a lot of reviews about a lot of different products, are picky about EVERY SINGLE THING, and they must find negatives, this is their job.

My school has like 100 brand spankin new Nec MultiSync LCD1560V+ BK monitors and they are all like 30ms ! And i can play games like UT on them with very fast speeds, and i don't notice any trail or anything like that. Maybe i'm just crazy, or something, but the older ones which were 35ms had really bad trailing problems, but with the 25ms ones, you can scroll down on a webpage, and the words don't really blur together, except when you scroll so fast you can't even read what is there.

There's no standard way to measure the reponse times for panels, so each manufacturer can do it different ways, some being more conservative than others.

i wanted a bigger LCD, so i bought the samsung 191T about 9 months ago.

i still love it, harldy notice the ghosting, vibrant picture through DVI (only way ive ever used it).

i can recommend the 191T im thinking about buying another when I can afford it

My vote is for the Dell 1901FP... I have the slightly older, 1900FP, but it kicks ass! The new one can move up, down, left, right, and all that other good sh*t....

I'll second the Dell UltraSharp 1901FP recommendation. Just got mine last week and it's beautiful. What a sight for sore eyes. I was using my '99 Dell Inspiron 7500 with an LCD that recently developed a bad red tint on the left half.

Haven't done much with the 1901FP yet since the computer I'm building is currently connected to a Sun monitor. I plan to exercise it soon with the ATI AIW Pro 9800, DVDs/DVR, and Morrowind.

By the way, I saw tonight that the price has gone up on the 1901FP. Considering the 4 week wait, there must be high demand.

Hi to all. Nice to become a member of the community.

Anyone saw the new review on Anandtech about Samsung 193P. It looks as promising as Dell and Ghosting is minimal, though still there...really cool.

On the german TFT forum website PRAD there is 3 19" LCD monitor recommended for games:

All with the same LG-Philips 25 ms S-IPS panel (best for games. with same response time MVA and PVA panels are bad for games)

iiyama e481s
nec 1960Nxi
Fujitsu-Siemens P19-1A

But 193P is 20ms new PVA and according to Anand with a great improvement on grey to grey transitions...little ghosting at all, maybe a bit more than Dell 2001FP in some situations, but better image quality. I think it´s a big improvement.

Samsung 193P is an awesome LCD but it is only so, so for gaming. For the last few days I have the newest Sharp 19" LL-191A which has 16ms response time. This is probably the best LCD for games right now. I would even claim that it is better than 12ms Samsung 172x. It is pure pleasure to play games on this LCD. No ghosting, no blurring only pure performance! Unfortunatelly it is an analog LCD. Here is the link to sharp website

It looks nice and so far all the reviews are two thumbs up.
I just bought one of these and I have nothing but praise, I was worried about spending 600+ on a monitor but every penny was worth it, no trailing, great picture quality 2D & 3D, I was worried about not having an adjustable height to it but you can tilt the monitor and to tell you the truth I don't really care about that feature because this monitor is huge enough to see if from my couch lol

I don't have any dead, stuck or stubborn pixels either...

First i have heard of that monitor just make sure you have an extended warranty. Every Sharp product I have ever purchased. died exactly one year later.

this sharp comes with 3 year warranty.

thats cool dude , I took a look at one, nice monitor . I hope you have years of enjoyment.

I know you said LCD and all but if you really want quality for gaming get a CRT.
