Best 19" CRT?

I'm looking for a 19"+ CRT for a gaming rig. I don't want to spend $350 for an E6600 and $400 for a GPU to end up having an LCD that can only hit 70Hz, and not at that the resolution i'd like to play. Plus, any gaming LCD that has a low response time lacks quality in most other areas. Any recommendations?

If you can, you should get a refurbished trinitron or diamondtron monitor. Those, IMO, are the best monitors that money can buy. Lacie used to have a diamondtron monitor for sale (up until a few months ago), but they're gone now as far as I can tell. You could maybe find a newer refurb of one of those rather than going back to an older Sony or something.

Any of the new CRT monitors are Shadowmask and that just sucks, because the image quality and brightness just aren't that good... They're all that way because they're cheaper to produced than trinitrons and everyone wants LCDs now anyway...

Hm, still can't find anything. Anybody that's running an LCD that plays FPS games, i'd love to hear your opinion. Do you have to run v-sync and limit your PC to 70FPS to get a decent quality picture? How does it look with v-sync off? What resolutions do you play at?

Thanks.

A good CRT is the Dell or HP P1130 or P1110. It uses the same sony trinitron tube as the G520 and a bunch of other rebadges. It is 21", search your local craigslist. Shouldn't be more than $100. Also, the FW900 is pretty much the best out there, definetly search for that one if you have the cash.

Kilomph,

I just finished going through the same situation that you are. I wound up with the Viewsonic G90FB(19" crt of course) which I'm very pleased with.
The refreshrates are as follows:

1024x768-118hz
1280x1024-90hz
1600x1200-77hz
1920x1440-64hz

I have no complaints so far, games great, moivies look really good as well.

Yea, the Dell P1110 is a great monitor. My wife now has mine. I've now gone to the 'flat side', montior that is.

I'm a gamer. I use an LCD. at 1280x1024 mine has a refresh limit of 75 hz. I don't use v-sync and see minimal tearing.

I had that monitor and didn't like it, the text quality was the worst i've ever seen on a CRT. Although it did have very nice color..

I've been pretty satisfied with Samsung monitors, i've owned 3 of 'em.

700IFT was the best 17" monitor i've ever had. Now i have the 1100DF (21") runs
1920x1440 @ 75Hz
1600x1200 @ 85Hz
1280x1024 @ <100Hz

Looks like i'll be picking up a Sony FW900 locally for $375 with a $50 6 month warranty. Wish they offered a longer one, but I can't pass up on the best CRT ever available. Thanks for the input people :D

Im thinking of possibly getting a large LCD sometime soon because I want a larger monitor but you simply cannot buy brand new decent CRT's anymore, usualy I'd be the last person after an LCD, but it's just something I'm going to have to come to terms with :(

Im thinking about getting a 24" LCD widescreen that can handle high res, but curently have an Iiyama Vison Master Pro 454 19", this baby goes upto 2048 2536 @ 75Hz.

If you're in the UK I might be selling this soon, although I fear you'd have to pick it up (I don't drive)

Same offer to anyone else that lives in the UK btw :)

Ha! woops. i meant 1280x1024 @ >100Hz.

I also got mine for less than 200 bucks brand new on ebay. I'm still not giving up my crt.
