Best $100 Card?

My old card I was trying to bleed a little more life out of as a stop-gap just went and completely died on me. So I'm having to find a replacement here a little earlier than I had anticipated.
  • I don't want to spend much more than $100
  • I play lots of new games
  • I want to run them @ 1680x1050
  • I only have a 430W PSU
From what I've gathered it sounds like my best bet is either the 4770 or 4850 (although they're typically more than I'm looking to spend). With my 430W PSU is the less demanding 4770 a clear-cut winner here? As someone who's never had an ATI card before, I'm also a little unsure which company to go with, for example between this Sapphire and this Powercolor?

I obviously am not too savvy in this department so any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your input. My only worry (unless I'm mistaken) is that in buying a used card I wouldn't be covered by the warranty.

I think if the card is still within the 3 yrs warranty Asus provides it is still covered even if you buy it used off someone, I could be wrong.

This might be better, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102824 - use code VGA48522 for 12% off, $15 MIR, free shipping, so final price after MIR is $86. Even comes with a free 6FT HDMI cable. Only 2 yr warranty though, not sure how long you were looking for.

80 dollars AR

a 4770 is also right at 100 dollars and kicks ass. hard to find in stock (people seem to love these things) not quite as fast at stock but reported to OC nicely.

So many good deals on HD4850 this weekend.

It's a tough buy with the HD4770 out.

If you can find a HD4770 get it. IMO it's better than the HD4850.

Yeah, that's proving to be a problem. The only one I can find in-stock online is the Diamond one, but I've heard they're not the best. Fry's has the XFX in-store, however its $143 after CA tax. I suppose I could pre-order one of the two I linked before on Amazon. I get free 2-day shipping there and no tax. I just don't know how long they're gonna be out of stock.

Does the GTS 250 justify the extra money?
I can get this EVGA on Amazon for $130 (no tax/s+h), which is more than I wanted to spend, but I don't really like any of the 4850's that are on sale, plus MIRs can go fuck themselves.
In reality, I'd only be paying about $20 more than the cheapest Sapphire 4850 and I'd be getting (at least IMO) a better brand. Or should I just be patient and wait for a good 4770 to be available at ~$100?
I'm also kind of curios about how the these 4770's seem to be really bare-bones in that they all just have the same basic fan. Is this something I should even worry about?

+1 for 4850 if you can find it for $100. I saw it somewhere recently for $90.

If not, the 4830 is also a great sub-$100 choice.

GTS250 = rebranded 9800GTX+ ~ 4850. better brand maybe but your buying several year old tech so no not worth it at all. If the brand is important to you look at the XFX 4770. Right now ATI is pretty much killing Nvidia at all points except the GTX260 range, bang for the buck the GTX260 is hard to beat.

I suppose I should wait for the 4770 to become available again, which will be hard as when I decide on something like this I want it to be taken care of immediately. That and I can't play any games in the meantime.

Does anyone know when the dual slot XFX 4770 (HD-477A-YDFC) will be available? I see that its on mwave.com and they say the 31st of May, but I don't know if that's just for them or what exactly is going on? You can see the two different versions here and some more in-depth shots here. From what I've read there isn't a huge difference between the two, but as someone who is extremely unlikely to add an aftermarket cooler, I'd like the best stock cooling possible. My case is already kinda loud so I don't care too much about the noise.
