Looking to get a 100-128gb SSD for my Thinkpad T400, and I honestly know nothing about SSDs at all. I'd like to know what im buying before I buy it so what do you guys think is the best brand of SSD, the most reliable and could I have some examples of drives?
Thanks

There's no such thing as "best", there are a couple of drives that performs better than others though...
Given that Intels 320 series have the nasty data corruption bug I'd have a look at Samsung 470 series or Marvell based controllers such as Crucials.

T400 is still SATA II so all those SATA III drives aren't worth the premium
I tend to agree with you, but really depends on if he plans to keep that laptop for a long time. Personally i think if he is, the Samsung 470 is a great ssd for sata II, and if he is planning an upgrade soon, maybe in ivy bridge, i would go with Crucial M4, the price difference is small, both are good drives.

I would go with a Sandforce 1XXX drive, OCZ Vertex2 or Agility2, or a 2nd gen Intel drive. This gen of drives won't perform as good on that unit, as last gens drives would.
