Dear All,

I have been in contact with BENQ in the UK as mentioned in other posts. The question I asked was this:

Hi,

Sorry to be a pain, but there were issues with the March update also. Using an HDMI signal, the image does get cropped, which is obvious when compared to an image using a hdmi-DVI convertor. Please see attached photos:

Is there another firmware due to fix this issue?

The reply I got was:

Don't worry about you be being a pain, as you are not! I have checked with our european product specialist and he confirms following:

- A new firmware has been released in May
- This firmware ads a new submenu to the OSD in which you can swith on or off the Overscan function which enables you to see the full image

If you have any other concerns/questions, please do not hesitate to contact me,

Kind regards,

Marleen

Wohoo! ok, stay calm, I think we have heard of BenQ claiming in the past to have firmware upgrades, only for it to be false. So I have asked for clarification on what to look for, what the procedure is to get flashed and at what manufacturing date will monitors already have this firmware upgrade.

I will keep you updated.

ask them to fix these while they are at it, in order of importance:

-lack of 4:3 and 16:9 scaling modes (beyond 1:1, aspect and full) for NTSC/480i/p signals (as those are 3:2 aspects signals and meant to be resized/shown at 4:3 or 16:9, never at "1:1"/"aspect" (3:2) or "full" (16:10 -the monitor's aspect of course)

-support for 1080 over VGA from the xbox 360 (display a 16:10 aspect image (so weird!) that is either too small or too large (monitor gets flaky and its one or the other) and never just touche the sides in 1:1 mode)

-underscan (or other reason for too small an image that doesnt touch the sides on 1:1) with 1080 i and p over component

-support for 480i over DVI from cable boxes for the non-hd channels

-support for VGA resolutions like 640x480 and 848x480 (where other most other resolutions are already handled correctly)

lol..

That's quite a list of requirements! Maybe the manufactureres should look at these forums to see what their customers want!

The May firmware update can be seen in the fp241vw model. Whether it fixes those issues remains to be seen.
