Bending CPU pins effecting OC?

I recently added some stuff to my computer, and I plan on trying to diagnose the problem to see if it's my new components or the PSU going funny. Either way, while I was installing my XP-120, I bent the pins on the CPU (too much AS5 the first time, went to take the XP-120 off and it yanked the CPU right out of the socket *yikes* but I bent them back into their needed position and it's running fine..But not my processor won't go above 2.49GHz...2.51GHz and it freaks. I think this might be my PSU having high 12v rails now (why I don't know) but I'd like to either count this out as a possibility or find out now and not waste my money getting better stuff to get my OC back. THanks.
 
Bent pins are the devil !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are lucky it still works. But bent pins are a definent problem. You might want to check out the AMD website and see if you can find something that list what each pins does for your processor. Some pins it can live without.
 
Well none broke off, they just bent slightly. I bent them back so they were straight and it went right back in. Would that still cause problems?

I did the same exact thing with an xp-90 and a a64 3200. Difference is mine did not survive :(

I bent a pin on my processor the first day I got it..bent it back into place(4 different ways with the aid of a ram puller) and it works just fine for me..I've had it up to 3.62ghz, so I doubt it was effected.
 
Well, I bent some pins on mine when I got watercooling, although there could be several things causing it, my voltages are now higher at stock than before, and even higher than before when I OC
 
Bent some pins on my P4 478... can't tell if it was affected or not, so I'd like to assume not.
 
From what I can tell, I can oc my fsb to 230 at 1.7, before I got water it was 247 at 1.7... so yeah
 
i think that bending pins affects the resistance of the pin, so that would explain changes in voltages/overclockability.

i think that bent pins are not usually covered under warrenties, though, so there isn't really much you can do about it.

This is possible, but it's hard to say whether or not it would have any effect without knowing the composition of the pins.
 
bent pin senarios over the years, one time i got a 2.4/533 part, must have had over half the pins bent from rattling around in a way to big plastic container during shipping, took several hours of intense pin straightening, very tedious, had to take many breaks.

final result was it hit 3.6 with a pelt, best 2.4 i ever touched. a small pin bendage shouldn't affect the cpu, however, if the pin is really flattened, the dynamics of the metal in the affected pin (s) does change, as previously mentioned, with the severe bendage and rebending back to straight, so if the pin was an important one...............................it definately can make a difference. the ones on that P4 i mentioned varied from as much as 45* to just slightly bent.

Mine were severly bent. At first I did not notice the cpu had pulled out, so I was less than carefull. I went to the MB to get the cpu and I was like WTF? I have bent a lot of pins over the years and I think this is maybee the first or second time I could not get the component to work (first for a cpu). I spent about 3 hours with a mech pencil getting them all straight so it would fit back in the socket. Oh well now I got a proc I can take the ISF off of for practise.
